well theres nothing wrong with that how many times have u gone to overtake sumone and there trailer lights are giving wrong signals due to bad earth just keep plug sprayed with wd 40 and check the lights before journey just think what crap would be driving on the roads without a test .wifeys car just failed . dipped headlight off and the clip holding the driveshaft boot had snapped great it saved me a fortune if it was left . just refixed it with a jubily clip

i think its only the new 13pin ones. i wish the testers luck trying to find an adaptor for the NATO on the rear of my landys

It's about time they started testing trailers and caravans, or to be PC... Anything you care to tow behind a vehicle

From what i found out == 1st lot of changes in JAN 12 then second lot of changes think in april/may
All light fitted to vehical must work/ fog spot etc,,,
All dash board lights must work,
Handbreak efficiancy is being raised 10/15%,
trailer lights must work( think only 13 pin ),,
Theres somthing to do with Rubber gaters as well ..
If a tow bar is fitted it MUST have a ball fitted to it ,,Unless its a removerble hitch type and there is more as well but carnt remember at the moment
when i took sisters car in last week was talking to tester and he showed me 6 a4 sheets of changes that come into affect from JAN 12,,,

a 50mm tow ball is the only E type approved towing deviceand any vehicle that passed type approval after 1998 can only use type approved items. This doesn't apply to commersial vehicles mind

I presume that it will be measured to check for excess wear, ovality and severe corrosion, doubt it will be measured, possibly with a go / no go gauge.

I can see there being much fun and arguments with the new lights specs, ie colour of light, blue led side lights ?, bulb incompatible with light unit ie retrofit HID units ? tinted lenses ?

The dash lights will cause more fun, especially the airbag light !

Ohhh and what new wonders will be revealed with the test for re-chipped ECU's

Dash lights - is it just the bulb or the function behind the bulb? For example all my dash lights illuminate when I switch on, but they can't test the bulb failure warning without disconnected a bulb.

I'm still even more convinced my Moggy Thou Traveller was the best modern car I ever owned.

At present you get an advise for small splits and leaks from a rubber gaiter. Under the new rules these would occasion a fail.

So I'm told, talking recently to my MOT tester. Does this mean I won't be able to glue 'em up any more before the MOT?

This is what happens when you do a cheap job using sticky boots. Have lasted 3 years so far, so can't complain...

They'll just be checking for correct operation sequence like they currently do for the ABS light. At the moment things like an airbag warning lamp are irrelevant but from next year they'll be paying attention to all of 'em so if whoever bought the car new specced ESP (or whatever) then it needs to (appear to ) work or the car will be deemed less roadworthy than the same model in poverty spec

I thought that was just being considered rather than added this time?

only white lights /yellow lights to show from front of vehical anyoter colours will fail == If you have blue lights on your washer jets it will fail as well as said VEHICAL Should be as came out of factory when made

Just to get you going my mates discovery failed MOT on tyres as they were offroad remolds(( road leagle )) BUT not high enough speed rated for disco , It went through the last 3 mots with these tyres on before but not this year,

He argued with mot man as said he didnt/wouldnt try to drive at 100Mph in the disco BUT still failed it,,,

Just roll out the MOT set of tyres again then. I even hire them out!

It could be to perform checks to prevent similar to what happened to me many years back:

A friend was ill and wanted his 5 metre boat towed to the harbour and would I take it down for him, it was all hitched up on the trailer and connected to his Sierra.

I checked the lightboard, improved the tie down ropes and set off, after 10 mins came to a corner and went round it, the trailer and boat didn't, straight across the road and took the front out of a pre fab type bus shelter, very luckily there was no one there.

The reason: brass nuts on steels bolts holding the ball hitch on, they had just stripped totally, I did mention to him it was a bit of a silly thing to do...but not in those exact words.

a mate of mine who lives in sweden told me traliers need some sort of mot there. even if you sweep the chimney over there you still need a certificate, i guess for house insurance purposes.

when u see the sh ./?/.te thats being towed around ist there any wonder they are clamping down on it . i saw a trailer made of woodchip and the indies were bolted to it it was left outside and was rotten i only pay 35 quid for my mot tests
