The Katsu wheel actually looks well made and good for the price. Any small irregularities could easily be ironed out with the end result being a very capable machine.Just been looking, & wondered if there's liable to be much difference, (bar the throat depth), between the likes of a Katsu English wheel:
& the Stakesys wheel.

EWBT400 Benchtop English Wheel
Stakesy's English Wheel for shaping steel and aluminium sheet metal for automotive, motorcycle and aviation work.stakesys.co.uk
I'm guessing the Stakesys would likely be of better construction?
Yes.so has anyone on the forum produced articles on an English wheel personaly and can show pictures .![]()
...it appears the Stakesys may be built from slightly thicker plate
That's what it was specifically designed for shaping & stretching sheet metalIs an english wheel to smooth curved parts? Does it also stretch metal?

Unless you plan to do large panels like a car roof it should cope with most jobs thrown at it. I did a lot with small bench wheel before making the large floor standing one.
Do they quote a shipping weight? That might highlight any differences in construction thickness.
As it is from Amazon, returns are easy if it's a turkey.
Like the Chinese mini-lathes, you could treat it as a starting point, to be improved.
As it is bolted construction, it would not be too difficult to add doubler plates if it is not stiff enough. Similarly, adding more cross tubes would not be difficult. Better quality bearings for the wheels are another easy upgrade.
The adjusting knob looks very small diameter.
I'm sure a lot of you have been there too.
It was the 12" that you originally looked at, wasn't it (EWBT 400)?Stakesys 10".

That's 33kg (shipping weight).
It's a misconception, you don't actually need shed loads of anvils. You will only use about 4 different radii at most. That's good. A bit torn now as to which to go for. The Katsu has a larger throat capacity at 12", over the 10" of the Stakesys, but the Stakesys incudes more anvils. Plus the Katsu is £60 cheaper.
I've ordered it, the Katsu, so that I can't dither further.
