Our local independent used to keep all sorts in stock, a huge range, they now keep everyday stuff in stock & get anything else in to order as required. They seem to get most the same day or next, so still pretty useful
Yes, the march of NAPA continues. The shop was always good for getting what you wanted in terms of makes. Perhaps they just couldn't stomach being tied-in to one supply company. Their prices were never much above on-line ones so I didn't mind paying a bit extra but sadly, I was probably in a minority. Two local independant commercial vehicle parts companies have now now joined larger organisations (one NAPA and one a smaller group). At least they are still trading!
I think at the moment all anyone with a small (or medium) sized business can do is to reduce debt and overheads to the minimum, and try to weather the storm hopefully coming out the other side in a last man/woman standing fashion.
Even if or when things are busy your 4rse is clanging over the next week/month/quarter.
I think Snap-On vendors will be in trouble very soon with the shear cost of their tools, the cost of living crisis, and the fact they're american, same with Tesla I'd say.
People are getting fleeced left right and centre now on fuel cost increases (probably across the world) because of the orange maniac and are angry at the usa.

Mate of mine's family run a chain of car breakers. 5 sites. Their wage bill has gone up by £50.000 a week due to the National insurance changes! So now they have to try to find an extra £50k a week PROFIT
Obviously they can't so cutting back on staff instead

that doesn't sound very true. They would have to employ around 2900 people at UK median salary in order to be liable for a £50k jump.
