A Tech GiantIts not just here, Oracle just laid off 30,000 people globally.
I just feel sorry for the staff...they were always switched and very helpful.....if I won a good chunk on the lottery,I'd be keeping such place open....amongst other areas in the Classic car restoration circles....I was watching Car SOS and a fella in a small lockup moulded a new bakelite steering wheelSteel stockholding has to be one of the hardest businesses to stay in.
Supply prices constantly fluctuating, small customers creating 80% of the overheads, cashflow is terrible if they're giving longer invoice terms which they usually do to bigger customers
Then those big customers sometimes going bust and completely wrecking the job. Commodity goods at cutthroat pricing with very little margin left in it.
She also has a private pension but the worry is that by the time she is eligible to draw on hers the Govt will have a system that whatever you get privately gets deducted from your state pension.
Sadly true. It's not a good environment for people trying to make a living from a small business these days.
Its a very very simple equation. Start a war as you and your mates have shares in weapons/munitions...... Raise the price of energy and almost all if not every business (and workers travelling to work) will have increased costs. Its then a death spiral similar to everyone burning a 100 pound notes every week. Even if it stops the destruction outweighs the benefits for many many many years to come.It is hard work - costs of operating are just rising - everybody who supplies raising the cost of just everything - try passing this on to the end user - who really has not money and you end up with no work to do.

Possibly getting out early on a voluntary basis?
Still only the tip of the iceberg methinksAnd many more to following way things are going

My nearest (10 miles away) local independant car parts shop packed up a few weeks ago. Terrible as a good place to get everything. Sad reflection on the current state of affairs. Nothing similar for miles.
