its not worth the hassle just buy used or newI could do with some. I've quite a bit of 25x25x2.5mm box section. Thinking slightly bigger CHS for the joining spigots. Make a jig etc. Thoughts? Something like this:

I've used those old 'slide together' modular tower things before many times, they're pretty good as long as it's just for your own use type malarkey
We made some boards to stand on out of old scaff boards, you need the diagonal brace bars, seen at the back with the short tubular ends, to keep it rigid of course.
Easy and quick to put up and take down too.

Agree - I hired a 4m tower a couple of weeks ago and was quite surprised at how much went into the design and also how much flex there still was despite the outriggers and diagonal braces.
My 59 year old risk appetite is far lower than my 30 year old version was - I wouldn't be clambering up home made scaffolding...
Was that when the scaffolding collapsed?Tied to chimney,

You are Fred Dibnah and I claim my £5....Bought one on ebay
Used it
sold it for £100 more afterwards..

That looks identical to the stuff I used, galvanised as you say. it had a couple of handrail sections you could put on the top tooI've got a pile of this stuff. It's quick and simple to put up and with boards on top makes a great work platform for many different things. I do strategically position a couple of ratchet straps to it to minimise wobble, mainly from the bottom section.
Edit: This was a while ago in use for painting the new shed.

Mine is galvanised so I don't know where the pile in the photo has been!
i have identical 4x4 galvanised heavy gauge it goes up to 30 foot then the 4 foot handrails .bought it new 50 years ago and like brand new theres no cement snots or damage where ar,seholes hit them with hammers if there a bit tight to remove . there that stable and heavy you can climb up the outside of it and no chance of it falling on level ground even without having out riggersThe bay of evil is awash with aluminium towers but they are all a little pricey but how about this one:
