My poor wife has been through similar. Maggies are very good if there is one in your area. But again just regular business hours.@Wozzaaah

Macmillan cancer charity to prioritise welfare support for trans and ethnic minority patients
A social security adviser for the charity said the proposal was 'inappropriate'www.gbnews.com
Monzo do that, too. I've a nice little pot sitting waiting for the urge to do something with it.My bank has a thing where they "roundup" card transactions to the nearest pound . The retailer gets £9.85 and 15p goes into my sayings account.
Maybe if the bank offers to send the extra to charities I could select (with a gift aid declaration) I'd think about it but adding it on at any random card reader feels a bit like buying roses from the girl with the basket in the pub.. I'm not convinced much of my donation ends up somewhere useful!

It's the modern equivalent of putting your loose change in a pot.
I had a similar story with MacMillan which is why I won't donate to them.@Wozzaaah

Can't argue with that!Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.

In matters of philosophy and mortality maybe. In questions of fact, no. It's either true or false.two sides to every coin

@BarrieJIn 2021, my wife was diagnosed with a Stage 4 peritoneal cancer, her consultant felt it was treatable and she was seen at the oncology department of Milton Keynes Hospital. The specialist unit is sponsored my Macmillan Cancer Research and they have a permanent staffed office on site, open during office hours.
My wife died of that cancer, in a ward on that unit, fourteen months later.
Not once in 14 months did she or any of our family once see a representative of that 'charity'.
The last week of her life was spent under the care of specialist palliative care nurses.
I wasn't handling my wife's decline very well and made my views of Macmillan known to one of these nurses.
Her response was: "Well, they're a business, just like all the rest".
The care she received on that unit was very poor, they just managed her death, failing to deliver on many promises made to her and us. Where was Macmillan?
Whenever my daughter or I tried to speak to them, there was never anyone in the office, the door open but no one home.
After my wife's death, we were encouraged to complain about both her treatment and the charity - but, honestly, what would have been the point?
I was in no fit state to pursue it and very much doubted there'd be any change.
My wife qualified as a nurse in 1966 and saving eight years child rearing, worked her entire life in the NHS, retiring age 65, then returning at the age of 70 to cover during the covid 'crisis'.
The GP surgery where she worked the last 35 years, no longer host Macmillan Coffee Mornings, due to the complaints made to the Macmillan rep by cancer patients of the practice. So, our experience was by no means unique.
Her father was a veteran of both Atlantic and Arctic Convoy protection and the RNLI had a special place in her heart.
We set up a fund for the RNLI in her name, my daughter's employer Belron UK (they own Autoglass) has been particularly generous and the fund currently stands at £15,000.
Age UK is no different. It used to be called Age Concern but there was little evidence they ever showed any.
