low pressure pump and use this

I have one of those - it's what gave me the original idea.

Its going to take some experimenting with sizes of pump to get the correct pressure + flow.

I ordered one of these:

surley a small fishtank /washer jet pump would be ample to keep a panel wet ? my thoughts are how are you going to catch it all neatly , say you want to wet up a sill, the water will creep and be dripping off all the underside

I have no real idea on what size pump is needed, whether a hydroponic spray mist or something more like the spray in a dishwasher.

I'm operating from the assumption that the underside will have a thorough pressure wash first.

its only got to stay wet doesnt need to be blasted at any rate , a gentle trickle ought to do , then what make a frame and pond liner to catch the run off?

Basically, yes.
Only because the costs of larger catchment areas and pumps increase exponentially with size.

I was out with a mate in his car some years ago, passed a petrol station with a big sign outside “New car wash, washes the underside as well” my friend said “I’ll try that” the girl on the till said “keep the engine running, people switch off, soak the engine & wonder why it won’t go” we were ok, no idea whether it did a good job or not, I wasn’t going to stick my head underneath.

yeah i guess jack up the car to make that area the lowest point , can always put a clamp or something on pointing to the floor to encourage it to drip there vs speading along the floor pan or unwanted areas

It's not "acid" as such - it's a chelation reaction - the "Daz" laundry washing powder neutralises the acid.
There's a thread on here "home made evaporust" about it.


Any other issues with liquid, I'd rather find out in my back garden than in the middle of nowhere after driving through a river.

Driving thru a river is a once & done.
A long recirculating wash is another thing.
Also, a "river" is not acidic., nor "neutralized" whatever chemicals (which still will remove rust ?)

I can understand the concept and would suggest you need to focus on the volume the pump can deliver rather than pressure?

Drive the car onto an uninflated paddling pool, set u the spray arms etc then inflate, using the pool as the storage and catching device?

I'd seal the gap from the sills to the pool as well

Being a Land Rover enthusiast I am not going to spray evaporust under my car, for obvious reasons, the rust is structural these days

A negative head pump would (or should) work but they are expensive, complicated and unreliable

this is just a washer reference

it uses a pressure washer

for reusable material yeah a rectangle pool could be used but you still want a collection sump and enough water to be reused whilst you spray it and pump the stuff you would also need filters as well

the sump water collection chamber is going to pretty big and you can have reserve tanks as well to use and filled after each use cheaper alternative use plastic bins as water collection and refill chambers from a sump pump

you can use a sedement collection tank from the sewers reference

Hot citric will dissolve cast iron brake calipers quite rapidly.

I know this is a more neutral mix but I would be doing a thorough test across any metals found under a car before using it. You don't want it removing any coating off brake lines or eating away any copper lines or alloy components.
