Is it just me?

Few weeks ago was driving to get some SWA cable from local merchants.
driving along Melford road in Sudbury, all the cars in-front of me where slowing down, probably about 6-8 cars, and could see ahead all the cars coming the other way were slowing down as well. OK wonder whats going on?
Next see quite large, but very stressed French Bulldog running down the middle of the road, staring at all the cars and could see very frightened. so thought bugger it, stopped car completely, turn engine off and opened door as he came next to car.
Nice friendly voice "hello mate, come on then, in you get" and with any further prompt he was scrabbling to get in, gave him hand and up and got licked to death, if only my other half was that pleased to see me. then get people bibbing me with horns to move!! i have no words.
Started driving away and saw police car coming other way, flashed him, wound down window and explained. Got "Can you take it to Melford vets I’ve got other things to do" FFS!

So with my happy little passenger went to vets, he was such a good natured dog, and as i was carrying him in, the receptionist was on phone and said "yes someone has just walked through the door with him" so happy ending.

But what got me and is still bothering me, nobody else did anything, probably 20+ people. it was just an Inconvenience and most were just trying to drive round the dog, not one person cared. everybody was so bloody desperate to get on with their selfish little lives that helping a helpless animal was to much trouble.
Dont have the greatest faith in humanity on a good day but that has really rattled me.
Is it just me?

thats folk for you last year i was driving down yarm high street and saw a terrier running in and out of the cars fortunately i knew who s dog it was , called it and got it in my van. i work for its owner sometimes who lives 2 miles away so took it home they have electric gates when people leave the dog hides in the bushes and when cars leave and gates start to close the little git flies out

Look at a football stadium, @Dozzer . There are 22 players and 90,000 spectators. The same ratios apply out in the real world. Forget what the other guys are (not) doing, and just be proud that you're one of the 22. Well done for getting stuck in.

Mrs Robo would stop, she even has a spare lead hanging in the car "just in case" she stopped last week to put a couple of lambs back into a field after they got through a gap in the fence, she's also taken a few injured birds into the local rescue centre.

I'm the same, any animal in distress or in the road is liable to get run over, and is coming home with me to the vets or whatever refuge is needed.

Otherwise it risks being roadkill and potentially causing an accident, I think most people just don't care, sadly.

I shan't make the obvious "special needs" quip, @Dozzer , since my wife tells me that I must attempt to be serious for at least 4% of my human interactions.

One of the worst I had was a cat that had been hit in the road - freshly dead - whoever hit it didn't stop (Not that they're LEGALLY obliged to..) but everyone was just driving around the body.

It was someone's beloved animal - so I took the body to the local major vet, where hopefully it was reclaimed in one piece.

People are ignorant and selfish - and just drive me wild!!

He was such a lovely natured dog, really bouncy and happy. got many licks as thanks.
If he was stray i would have kept him.

I got roundly ridiculed for being late to work as id taken a duck that had been hit by a car to the vets to be put down.

Some horrible sod had ploughed into her and 4 ducklings, there were another 3 on the side of the road trying to get back to them while cars just razzed round them. I moved the dead ducklings to the verge and picked up the badly hurt but still alive mother. Couldn’t leave her there, terrified with cars whizzing by, waiting for the next one to hit her. As it happens another bloke stopped to help as well. Everyone else just carried on by regardless. Work can take the **** all they want, I won’t leave an animal to suffer, I don’t care what it is

My partner also keeps a lead in the car just in case, and it's been used twice for the same reason. She also taught me that dogs that won't come to you are normally happy to jump in your car. Again, knowledge that has been used more than once.

I read your post first and got very confused, I was wondering why your mrs would be driving around with a roll of lead in the car

Our first retired Greyhound was a massive old boy called Flash, missile fast in a straight line but not so good at bends or corners at his speed

Out of character, he made break out the front door, tried to chase pointlessly only to find him round the corner in the front seat of a guy "detailing" his classic, I was laughing so much dragging him out on his lead that even when the car tw*t owner said he was going to sue me I was wiping tears from my eyes.

During the last storm I went into town for fuel for the genny.
I was rerouted a couple of times due to fallen trees and ended up on the busy main road into town.
A large branch completely blocked one side of the road and I saw a couple of near misses as vehicles swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid the branch.
I stopped beside the branch, completely blocking the road for my own safety and got out to move it. The branch was heavy and it was hard to move. But not 1 person got out to help me, including a guy in work clothes in a white transit who was at the front of the queue and just sat and watched me trying to shift the branch.
There were twits beeping horns but the more they beeped the slower I went!

I was reared on a farm and if you saw animals on the road you would put them in a field and ring around the neighbours to see who owned them. Not as easy now because a lot of land around here is leased and the owners of the animals are not locals.
