Not sure. Maybe the cap just died but that looks quite spectacular or maybe there's something else not right with this pump? It still turns ok but I don't trust it.
Best part of £600 for a similar (2.0 bar) replacement.
Luckily I didn't rip out the other pump downstairs that feeds the old bathroom shower that's going soon! Some rejigging of the pipes on the hot water cylinder is needed here and once done means no more downstairs shower so I have to be sure the new one works properly.
Bloody bollxxxs!

I used to only buy Stewart Turner pumps...now I just throw in whatever is going cheap (salamander). I've lost count of the number of pump failures in the last 16 years!

Reminds me, I must test this one to see if it works, must be old as it has screw down greasers for the bearings.

Well I'm hoping the final solution is fitting a new 2 bar Grundfos pump.
It's quite and so far no pulsing...
I think the old beast of a Stuart Turner 3 bar pump was just to powerful for the pipework in the upstairs shower, I think there's too much 15mm pipework where it should have been 22mm.

Been poncing around with the old negative head pump that blew it's capacitor today and got it working with a new cap, these old green Stuart Turner pumps seem almost indefinitely rebuildable!
I've got a newer black bodied one that's seized in storage but it doesn't look as fixable.
I've also got another green 3 bar standard one with a damaged pump end cap that's fighting me all the way AND there's the old 3 bar standard one in the the now decommissioned bathroom that needs to come out.
I'll fix what I can and sell them all on then buy a spare Grundfos one just in case...

It may just be the seals. If it's been standing for a long time the calcium salts in the water bind them. Get some water in there and try again.

It's got a tight spot, it does run but makes a hell of a noise, I'm a bit pee'd off as it was sold as a good pump (I think is was at the time) but didn't like being stored.

I'm convinced tgat some of tge sral failures are actually not failures, per se. Just a build up of salts from tge microscopic amount of eater tgat bypasses the ceramic faces. Much the same as quarter turn taps

I just buy the cheaper pumps these days...people don't know how to quickly test them so they get sold as untested! Last one was about £30....new in box!!!
