GSX1100 gearboxes, the one on the left has damage to the sprocket splines and threads. The one on the right has damage to 2nd and 3rd drive gears. So I can make a good one from the two, and then get the drive dogs undercut.

2nd gear dogs take the beating on them boxes, once spun a few times its a catalist for future missed 2nd gear changes.

Got to be 1% chromium in it, the finish is just beautiful:

Sadly, this piece has an artefact in it and I dont know what I am going to do to work around it:

What causes that?

It can be something like a bit of carbide got into the mix from the recycled metals used to make the steel and it stayed local not dissipating into the whole pot.

I was thinking to spin the whole piece end for end and effectively change ends as I have only just started. I need to get underneath it, a toolpost grinder would work.

Or an angle grinder clamped to the toolpost.

I assumed that you didn't have a grinder, since, to me, that's the obvious approach.
