Chap at the Cupra dealer took us out in a Tavescan and both SWMBO and I both felt sick. Then I drove and I STILL felt queasy just driving it!
The guy was saying "Go on, press the Cupra button...you know Cupra stands for "cup racing?"
I did but all the gimmicks don't interest me.
It's like some of these cars are trying to say "Look at me, I'm an EV!" The Skoda inside is very understated. If only it didn't have the big screen

Bob the app for this car did alert me to a fault with it, so it knew there was a fault code, just kept the actual code to itself as a secret, my diagnostic tablet and the one of the AA patrol man couldn’t get that information from a Hyundai.
It’s now been 5 days since it went in and despite trying to get some information from the Stealers they refuse to tell me the outcome of their findings, I’m beginning to wonder what they have either found to make it so secretive, or are unable to disclose because they’re clueless as to what to do about it.
So explain why e.g. Ford won't sell any internal component for some engines below the head gasket individually - only "short motors"?
Or others who will only sell a cylinder head, not the Valve Guides?
(There's decades of precedent for the parts to repair/rebuild an engine by replacing pistons, rods, bearings, valves, guides etc etc.... so demonstrably Mfrs are NOT making full parts availability - but RESTRICTING parts availability to force the purchase of entire Assemblies at far higher cost).

I was installing a robot at Carello (ex-Lucas) and chap who gave me a tour told me they get occasional orders for a batch of vintage Rolls Royce headlamps as they still have the original tooling, he wouldn't tell me what they charge though

Problem is, remember back in the day you could buy a second hand engine from a breakers for not a lot?
Well the price nowadays is mental, I don’t know what an eco boom engine goes for from a breakers, but a used BMW diesel can be over £5 grand
As to why you would want to rebuild a Ford Eco boom, well maybe the person who bought it might have spent £8 grand on it and on credit too.
So they’re unable to scrap it and have to deal with the consequences, which whatever way you see it could cause serious financial consequences.
Ford should be able to make their engines re-buildable, and if it’s the case that they don’t, that should not be allowed.

Ecoboost engines were originally designed to be recycled, not rebuilt - when first launched, the core engine (i.e. no ancillaries like starter, alternator, AC compressor) were costing Ford circa £450 per unit, so making parts available was never in the plan - for one, it meant they didn't have to provide workshop procedures, tooling and warranty on 'cheap' parts. It (to their accountant engineers) made financial sense.
I doubt that Ford or any other manufacturer would be financially hurt by a second or third owner not buying their products again, they make money on new sales (of which some is given to dealers as throughput payments), the dealers & traders make money on used sales.

Vehicle manufacturers are stipulating service intervals for engines which will get them over the warranty period, they know it’s well in excess of what’s required for longevity.
But for a few decades now they’re in competition with each other to keep those intervals expanded in order to keep them ahead of the competition.
By doing so it makes their vehicles “cheaper” to maintain over a period of time for the people purchasing these vehicles.
That’s all fine and good for the first and maybe second owner but it’s increasingly the case that engines are failing at a mileage for owners whereby the warranty is finished, and their shiny car with a full dealer service history is having catastrophic engine problems.
I genuinely feel for these people, I change my oil and filter every 5000 miles, I’m fortunate that I have mechanical knowledge.
90% of the modern population just don’t, and think that the manufacturers advice of an 18,000 mile oil change is OK
Try telling them on a car forum that a full dealer service history is fundamentally flawed and you’ll be shot down in flames, I try but it’s not my problem, my cars are serviced by me at my service intervals and they are all the better for it.
Even though my cars will be worth less at the time of sale because it doesn’t have that cosseted gold leafed, signed dealer stamp.
Because let’s face it main dealer mechanics have way way more knowledge, and any mechanic who doesn’t work for a main dealer is OBVIOUSLY cutting major corners hahaha

Short Motor as a minimum from Ford Dealer.... at the best part of £5K with VAT iirc.
(You can get everything aftermarket for Transit 2.2L Euro5, & the 2.0L Wet Belt Euro6 is pretty good now too).

They're keeping the lease companies happy - they're the ones that look at TCO and put (or not) the vehicles on their lists of vehicles for companies (and individuals) to lease.
Here's just one anomaly - VWG vehicles have a brake fluid change at three years, then every two. Other manufacturers specify two years repeating.
How is VWG brake fluid 'factory fitted' capable of three year life, but the stuff dealers use only capable of two year life?

I've had a customer enquiry about a
1.0L Ecoboost a couple of days ago - so I cast about for parts, whether complete cyl heads were an option etc.
I found there are recon engines available - but one will cost a punter a good 5x what they cost Ford.

BMW (and LR for the 6HP26 which was a BMW imposition) engineering determined that if it needs an oil change, that was end of life - so on that basis, 'sealed for life' was correct, and TBH, having seen some of the innards when stripped, an oil change wouldn't have resurrected them - of course, the youtube mechanic will just keep adding friction modifiers (Dr. Tranny - sounds wrong, but the whole premise of it is so there you go.) until the friction material is completely in suspension in the oil and jamming the fluid valves.....
But yer, I'm a (multi) manufacturer trained & accredited tech, never made a youtube video - not even got a youtube account, it's no wonder that most vehicle tech's don't admit to working for a 'stealer' and stay away from forums, I'm beginning to see the attraction.
