That is almost identical to the set I have misplaced., but my handle was a Day Glow Orange.

Its a snapon gadget, its about £25 for a new one which is probably a tad too dear for a one off job. Its a shame you misplaced yours Vark, they are a really well thought out tool. Link!

Talking of brake tools, I have a pentagonal socket which fits 70's/80's Peugeot front brake calipers. If anyone has any use for it they are welcome to it for postage assuming I can still find it after 30 years!

Ended up using Vice grip small needle nose locking pliers, the jaws worked great to hold the cup.

Mine was or is, where ever it is was ex MOD.
From my time at HMS Mercury.
I looked after all three 27kVa emergency generator sets.

Pick up an old set of small linesman pliers - the rusty old ones you never use - go over them with wire brush on a grinder - lubricate the joint...

Then cut two shallow matching grooves in the flat jaws with thin cutting disc - and away you go....

I have even seen - someone with a weak hand - put a jubilee clip round the handles to hold the force on the handles to keep the clip in the grooves...
