Correct! I have a 1998 Rover 620sli and a 2002 Toyota Celica vvti, both owned for over 20 years and have no plans at all of getting rid of them.
A while a go, I spent an afternoon going around various garages with a mate who was looking for a new car and I saw nothing that remotely appealed to me.

id take old luxury over modern tat any day
1998 was a good year, my wife & i have had four cars of that vintage, A battered mk2 Mondeo, A Skoda Felicia a Mondeo Estate & a Honda CRV, All were brilliant & lasted years & years.
My 2003 Corolla is on the way out, it just scraped through its mot & my mechanic said dont bring it back next year....
So im looking for a new set of wheels to tide me over until the Morris 1000 truck is back on the road. I uncovered it today in the shed & need to finish the welding. Its going to be a big job.
I find myself looking at boring Toyota Yaris's. But then i find myself looking at Hot rods & the other extreme of Kei trucks like the Daihatsu Hi jet.
I may be about to buy something stupid.

Nothing wrong with Yaris mate - second generation 2005 to 2013 XP90 is the one you want. 1.3 2SZ four cylinder engine the one to go for.
Do not buy the noisey 1.4 diesel offering...
One of my eldery customers has a 1.5 TS auto model - high spec 2012 thing - real low mileage/serviced/sub 30k/garaged car. He still driving - both front and back bumpers got low speed car park dings now - but mechanically - you would do well to find one as good as this one.

Naaah! The one you want is the Toyota Yaris GR, pal of mine has one he bought brand new, waited nearly 18 months for it and outside a track he says he can't let it loose or it's going to be license away! His day job is tuning the Porsche race cars so you can imagine this is a right lively thing.
I will probably be sensible, 99% of my journeys are to the yacht club & boatshed every day about 4 miles. On a long run it will be ten miles total. Something silly would never get off choke!
Did see a nice little Daihatsu hijet kei truck the other day & thought Oooh thats cute, but when you think your legs & feet are the crumple zone in one of those.....

We had a shuffle in the unit a few days back, the mk2 scirocco started first time and so did the 1955 Austin A30, just round the corner is a 2019 Merc that has been off the road for 3 months with a few faults

Why the manufacturer's think having to scroll through five different menus to alter the dash brightness or turn the heating up is unreal!
Give me tactile buttons and sliders anyday.
My 25 reg Combo van has the clocks so bright I'm blinded at night even on the lowest setting but then the touch screen is to dim to see it, why aren't they the same or at least individually adjustable?
Automatic wipers that just don't work properly, I've had at least 4 cars where that function just doesn't work.
DAB radio, crxp.
Stop start, that'll get you lynched in London if you leave it on and don't accelerate like a stolen Tesla at every set of lights.
Another 'thing' I don't like is the accelerator pedal in these vans is so lightly sprung that I have to physically keep my foot lifted or it'll constantly speed up, I added a spring to my last one and that stopped leg ache within a week!
Improvement leads to decline someone once said, yep.

Ferrari have just introduced a new model with real controls, due to so many complaints about the current touch version. The new button equipped steering wheel design is available as a retrofit in an effort to placate owners too.

My new Caddy van has everything done from the touch screen except radio volume and heater temp its so menu driven its crazy , as bad as using a mobile phone I think. I remember when VW went too far and it was as if the buttons on the dash had been blasted from a shotgun they were everywhere almost as confusing . My wifes CX5 Mazda is the best layout we have had so far
A set of front pads for an SVR range rover is about 680 quid from memory ,,, and thats before you fit them ,,,,

On the reverse of the steering wheel, two rotary dials can be twirled by your fingers to manage volume and station selections.Ferrari bosses admitted that in launching the new Amalfi they had bowed to criticism - most notably from their rich customers - who found the touch-screen and haptic or near-touch sliders on the Roma model infuriating.
The performance car-maker had gone 'too far' in replacing physical knobs and buttons, they conceded.

Another key mistake on the Roma was removing and replacing the 'iconic' Ferrari 'Start-Stop' button on the steering wheel to fire up the car with a digital touchscreen button on the dashboard. So now Ferrari has brought back the physical start button too.
Indeed, so concerned was Ferrari that it is now also offering existing Roma customers the option of a replacement steering wheel with physical buttons too, though this doesn't include the engine start button.
The u-turn marks another victory for all motorists fed up with the motor industry's infatuation with distracting screen commands at the expense of physical buttons. Studies show that many touchscreens are distracting and car-giants like Volkswagen -with the Golf - have been criticised for an overemphasis on digital commands.

I recovered a guy few years ago, had bought his 4th rolls, forget the model but proper old school one...it lost a cylinder half way home so got talking to him and he bought it with 5 months test and a set of new tyres for £1800.
