Sealey compressor still not right

Bit of an update again.compressor is now getting red hot.cant touch the motor,and plastic box on top has melted through the screws.wonder if it’s anything to do with it running on a 16amp supply?

If you are still using two run caps instead of the correct start cap then the motor will run hot due to the incorrect capacitance, more current is required with the incorrect capacitance. More current = more heat

Also more heat will damage the windings in the motor, so you may need a new motor.

Don’t get why the thermal switch did not trip.as for the capacitors,I’m assuming 2 are required for this model as there were 2 when I bought it.i just replaced them like for like.it never got this hot on a 13amp plug‍

The field windings have gone if it's getting hot enough to melt the plastic + the thermal is toast. The 13A fuse would have popped, get ready for the fire.

You didn’t replace like for like, one has to disconnect after the motor starts. The two you posted pictures of are just standard run caps. You needed to have one the disconnects electronically as the motor doesn’t have a centrifugal switch. The one like @jo1010 put a link for.

Which wires do I test for the windings on the pic?

You would need to remove the brass links to check the windings. From the diagram the main winding is between terminals U1 and U2 the start winding is between terminals W2 and V2.

Does the motor have a horrible smell?

I’m getting 1.6 ohms between w2 and v2,and getting 0.7 ohms between u1 and u2.does this sound right?

You also need to check the insulation between each winding and the case of the motor, but this ideally needs to be done a with an insulation tester rather than a dmm

Ok no probs.but do these readings seem ok.tbh the compressor yesterday was running continuously as I was sandblasting.
