Turning to the subject of pattern carbs, there are a lot out there that are pure garbage, but there are also some excellent carbs too. I tend to buy pattern carbs from L&S Engineers because they deliver almost as quickly as Amazon, have a tech dept you can talk to, and provide warranty/returns.

No doubt due to the warranty they supply carbs that don't give any bother out of the box for Stihl, Honda GX series etc. As an example this is a pattern carb for a GX, £30:00 inc next day delivery, the genuine carb is £188:00 plus delivery. The upshot of that is I can buy a replacement carb cheaper than I can run one through the ultrasonic cleaner.

I just about remember them in the mid 60's when visiting relatives in Wolverhampton.

No I just leave it on charge when it's in use. The battery indicator pulses from empty to full to show it's charging.

Applied few more layers of blueing on the sight components

It's a slow process but at least it leaves a durable finish.
It'll take few more layers to get the wished results (deep matte black ) but I've discovered I've made a couple mistakes:
I use a rag to remove the eccessive rusting formula and I don't dry the parts using an heat gun.
All this shows down the process significantly but I guess it'll leave a finer finish
Overall satisfied as the results are comparable to industrial products

Had the reply to my email giving the customer his good news about the cause and cost of the engine failure. He's not happy with the bill obviously, but wants it repairing and will hopefully heed my advice on how a big single should be ridden.

So that's one for the new year as the crank's got to come from America, gasket set from Italy and the seals & bearings from Japan.

I asked for that (£1,000) on the first part for all the reasons you'd expect, and he paid it without a problem. Because of that I'm happy to stand the parts and bill him at the end for this run of work. Plus as a safety net the quad's worth twice the total bill amount so if he goes bankrupt, changes his mind, drops dead or whatever I'm good as everything's in writing and right of lien applies, even if it would take a bit longer to get paid.

There's bound to be a snowmageddon event one year, possibly.

I have a spare steering column and ski so once it's up and running again making up a grass wheel is on the job list.
