Sort of. At one end there's a felt seal, then a lip seal and then the bearing buts up against the rim of the boring in the case where they sit. The bearing had been fitted so that it made contact with the seals rather than the case so it was just enough to load the crank bearings and tighten them. I seated the bearing in the case, then checked the other on the crank and all's well. While it was out I tweaked the run out on the crank back to one thou from three.

It may well be, but most of the issues seem to be where he's made 'repairs' and grafted on the electronic ignition. I need to test the coils once I've dug them out and then run through it for shorts, breaks and resistances. Then see which is the best approach between remake/repair or bin the lot and start from fresh.
I'm leaning towards the 'rip it out and start again' scenario now.The crimps have to be done with sidecutters and insulated with Sellotape for a proper job

It's my 'go to' but I have to make sure I can offer/explain the alternatives to customers so that a) there's no doubt it's the best course of action, and b) there's no quibbles or concerns that I'm bumping up a bill for the sake of it. It's a trust thing (which is understandable) take a bit of time to establish it in the beginning and it frequently saves hassle for either party later on.
