Progress on the BAFCO Fluffinator, the fluffinating drum of which has now been drilled to accept the static pegs within which the hedgehog bit spins at 2800 rpm.
Tip speed is about 19 m/s , which isn't hanging about.
Hope to do a bit of further on the hoof designing and building tomorrow......

Yes but I was accused of having OCD by @Dapph2 and I suggested the state of my workshop disproves that accusation. You have seen it so...

I ruined a perfectly good pair of pliers.
Then machined a little block of steel and soldered it on.
I left it as a single block and split it after soldering so I could ensure good alignment. I used my best vintage, cadmium-bearing silver solder, REACH compliance be damned! It did flow into one of the holes, but I'd actually drilled them the wrong sizes so it needed re drilling anyway.
A bit of fileing and they're about done, just need to make some jaws to bolt on. I need to finish the bare steel too, I'm thinking I might grit blast and cold blue them.

Primarily they're going to be ring forming pliers, you can buy them but they look a bit cheap and nasty for my liking (Arts and crafts quality).
I've not soldered the round jaws directly on so I can change them in the future, maybe I'll want a smaller diameter, or plastic faces, or something entirely different. They could be internal circlip pliers, or custom crimps for example.

I cut these and season them for around 2years they were a good little side line a year or two back.
The one in the picture isn't finished the lad is going to do that himself.
Terrible stuff for checking and splitting blackthorn hence the careful drying even then there is no guarantee.
Tough stuff mind.you wouldn't want a scud of the lug with one of these
