KPN326H 2700kg screw-type two poster. Picked it up at auction for £300.

Got it bolted in, but it refused to lift my mate’s Navara - just took the weight then the motor stopped dead and tripped the breaker. Afterwards, it would lift the arms up and down just fine. I can turn the mechanism by hand.

There’s a safety mechanism that stops the lift dead if the main nut is worn - it trips a mechanical stop. Could it be that? It doesn’t quite explain the arms lifting fine with no weight, unless the mechanical stop resets.

Motor is a 3ph 4-pole 3.5kW running on a rotary converter. Will give it a check over.

- Any advice, sources of parts etc. appreciated. Could do with some leadscrew bearings and rubber pads.

- Main nuts are bronze with trapezoidal 40mm x 5 thread. Expensive. Could I make my own? A bit tricky without being able to test the thread.

have you got the right size breaker? or is the converter fit for the inrush current? My lift is hydraulic and i had to put a D curve breaker on it

My two post Stenhoj struggles a bit unless the load is properly centralised, on the heavier vehicles I have to make sure its trying to straight lift and not cock the lift nuts against the screw.

Power supply to be looked into - rotary converter has a 10hp idler so under 5hp should be fine. It seems to be more of a dead stop.

We had a bit of trouble deciding how to position the pickup. It’s an asymmetric lift, but the ‘right’ place (arse end sticking out more) meant my mate was trapped in the car. Further forwards meant the rear chassis rail curved up away from the back arm. We ended up just pushing it into place. Those garage boys make it look easy.

I have a scissor type lift, and i must say, it can be a head scratcher sometimes figuring out the best way to get different vehicles lifted safely!!

Butts of Bawtry were the dealers for Rav lifts.

Previous employer had a few and they were decent enough lifts, but the maintenance contract was with the hopeless idiots Gemco who couldn't maintain/fix anything they supplied let alone a lift that they didn't supply.

you will find its a motor electrical issue

in 3 phase mode it will lift it unless theres an issue with the motor being down a phase

im not so sure on the 3 phase convertor but i suspect it will be the same

they work fine with no weight as soon as you get weight on them not enough power and they stall on the lift as not enough power to turn the mechanism or the motor has lost a phase

Cheers @gaz1 the motor tests fine (winding continuity and megger) so that leaves the power supply.

But, the left-hand main nut is definitely worn enough to trip the safety block, I would say. The crest of the threads is a knife edge - nearly stripped. That needs sorting before anything else.

@m_c that’s the dealer I’ve seen, thanks. £120 seems a lot for a simple part, though, with a lathe sitting there idle.

If not @doubleboost , anyone else able to have a go? 2x 50mm dia* bronze, 65mm long, one with LH, one with RH trapezoidal 40mm x 5 thread. I can do the other features, it’s just the lack of a test thread that’s putting me off, unless I could mark the piece in the chuck, take it out to test and put it back - is that a thing?

* Actually measures 50.3 - 50.5mm, but that’s the unmachined surface so not too critical.

Sounds like the converter isn’t giving enough grunt under load. I’d check that first before tearing into the nuts

the screw works by turning with power and amps not enough of either and the motor will fail as it cant turn the screw to raise the lift when theres a weight upon it therefore blowing the fuse

you need to look upon the forums as theres many posts where people have tried to convert these types of lifts from 3 phase to single phase

I have acquired a Bradbury series 40 4 post lift but don't have the manual for it. Im only really after the foundation plan for installing it. Anyone know where i might get one?

I have been gifted a converter that came with a friends 3kw 3 phase vehicle lift. He didn’t use it, he converted to 3.7kw single phase motor instead.
I’m confident this converter will work.
Now I have got it working, however, I don’t think the converter itself is wired correctly.

The motor is running in star, as the converter coverts to 400v+.
I have wired with armoured cable, rotary isolator etc direct too the board etc. Currently on a B20 breaker, had planned to change for C20.

The lift works and then randomly it just stops working, the motor grinds to hault and is almost like it’s...

Thanks - if it makes it any easier, the OD can just be plain 2” (50.8mm). All I need is the right length (65mm) and the threads down the middle.

With one offs we don’t see anything back on the waste, a friend of mine works with titanium all day, he has had £1500 back for a builders bag rammed with swarf.

I'd say £120 a nut is pretty reasonable, given PB isn't cheap, and it avoids having to faff around making/finding/buying a suitable thread cutting tool, then the risk of having to buy more material because you just screwed it up.
