Average age of cars on UK roads oldest ever!

Currently a 22 year old Yaris and a 21 year old VW T5 panel van from new it's a 2.5 pd, the one with no cam belt or chains it's all done by 11 linked gears at the wrong end!

I once bought an '04 B11 Nissan Sunny Estate new which I got 25 years out of before selling for £99 to become a chicken coop.

It's far less trouble than the T5 van. I used to service it for the original owner when she gave up on the useless Toyota dealer after one year. I bought it off her for my daughter at about 5 years old. And she had it until last year when I got her a 2016 Skoda Fabia Estate which she loves but I bet I spend more time under it than the Yaris. It's a 4 door 1.3 Spirit auto so it's a great little thing. We have kept it and my Mrs absolutely loves it. It has a few battle scars so she can park it in any busy car park and barely notice if it collects a few more!

It's never failed an MoT or had an advisory.

That's likely as much to do with you keeping on top of issues as the vehicle's build quality. A lot of folk don't maintain their vehicles well.

Another local garage has a Lancia Delta Integrale for sale, lovely car in red. But €55,000? Like really?

I can put my hand on my heart and say, that is one of the worst cars i have ever worked on, nothing is a 5 min job, and they are hideously unreliable, friend has a black evo 2. did the timing belt on as a favour but have refused to touch it for the last 10 years, has sat unused in one of his barns with an electrical fault for the last 2 years.
Not all old cars were great.

The Aggro, my uncle had one in the 70’s. My one memory is that of a hot summer day, going back to the car having been on Par Sands all morning, and getting 3rd degree burns off the vinyl seats

My 9000 Aero is 30 years old and still going and just passed another MOT - 194,000 miles 300bhp as mapped and still fun though a couple of squeaks i need to look at over the weekend.

A friend of the family was into his Saab's, owners club the lot. He had just about every flavour of them including the very early two strokes. Always seemed a very well made car.

I loved mine, a 9-3 Aero. Newest car I've ever bought, at 7 years old. Kept it for another 9 years and 120k+ miles.

I think I had my money's worth out of it but as seems to be the way with anything built this century, it was electrical gremlins that finished it off rather than rust or anything mechanical. Something killed the ECU, I never did figure out what. The kit to diagnose it properly would have cost many times what the car was worth. Sold it for spares in the end.

One of my assorted ex-wives had a 5GTL, the 1.4, in the early 90s ... quite a nippy thing although it had the build quality of an Airfix kit and more body roll than Ann Widdecombe chasing a cheese down Cooper's Hill.
Used it to pull our Conway trailer tent down to Dinas Dinlle near Caernarvon. Got a bit interesting when the clutch cable snapped on the way back.
