I worked with a guy so tight that if he put a fraction too much water in the kettle... he'd pour the remainder into a Thermos

He would get up early to boil a kettle so he could fill a large flask which kept him in tea all day. He must have saved at least 15p.

My mates farther in law was like this. Used to save up bits of soap when the bar had run down to a slither and to make a new bar out of bits, headcase.

I've just thrown a load more tubes out of various stuff, annoying as do like it on hand for odd jobs.
Couple of old open tubes of UniBond No Nails still fluid tho!

I've got a vacuum packer, I'm going to put the next tube of seldom used open stuff thick shrink so how that goes, been working a treat on a pack of Belzona over the year, but that is expensive!

At an electric car charging point we got chatting to another owner. He had solar panels and was on some deal where overnight electric was either free or super cheap. He is either from Scotland where they are tight as two coats of paint - or from East Anglia where we are poor.

When you empty the dregs of boiled kettle into a thermosflask and then pour into into the next kettle to be boiled - you know you are poor....

How did it go solid without activator? It'

It absorbs moisture and crystals form...but if you gently heat it you can recover it most of the time.

Just remember once you've warned it up the water needs to be used to make a cuppa...waste not!

That sounds familiar. He sold his solar electric back to the grid I think, though I recall him saying it's not as good a deal as it was.

The chargers we met him at were free ones at Asda. At the same spot we saw a guy plug in with a newish 4x4, must have been a £60k car. He then got an electric scooter out of the boot and zipped off down the road. Gone home perhaps. Never went near Asda. Sadly, the free chargers didn't last long. They turned them off, perhaps realising the people weren't Asda customers or they cost too much.

I stick the sliver of old soap to the new bar. I have done for years. I also keep the tiny bars when I stay in hotels.

Tubed jollop? The old nozzle is removed and put on the new tube.

My parents used to have neighbours who would buy granulated sugar, then grind it down with a Pestle and Mortar if they needed icing sugar.

The same neighbours were also in the local newspaper complaining that they weren't insured after their house flooded due to a frozen pipe, but glossed over the minor detail he'd asked for frost cover to be removed to save some money on the insurance

it's not the financial saving it's the feeling you have beaten the system no matter how small .

Used the soap ends pressed into a lump when changing tyres or innertubes. Quick wipe around the beading and the tyre goes on easy(ish).

i fire up the rocket stove and boil a kettle that way whilst its a little bit of hand work its still free

no as the kettle is a solid base on it

and if i was melting the kettle base id just use a pan instead



i also have a brick built one in the garden simple things to build

I do that at work - caused some consternation the other day when one of the ladies in the other office saw me removing the final set of tea bags from my cup . . .
