DVLA and insurance

I was able to tell them that the vehicle was confirmed insured by the same MID that they claim didn't confirm my insurance status. So if they decide to take any action now, in the face of that knowledge, they will be wasting their time.

And yes, as @GRW says, they are deliberately obstructive by not allowing email comms, and their obtuse phone menu system which routes you through to nothing of any use. They make it very easy to pay fines though.

now i use this myself if they can do it so can others, so recording your convo with them covers your back and is usable within a court as its dated and timed

And if for some reason a matter goes before a magistrate, council, DVLA and other bodies are well practised at pulling the wool over a Court's eyes, lying through their teeth knowing full well the Magistrate know FA and be a nodding donkey.

As most people have cell phones, what do you use to record a phone conversation??

If you write in, and they write back, it's always someone of higher grade so it will be correct because it's in writing, and it's more difficult for them to dispute it. At the time of taxing online they do NOT check insurance or MOT, try to tax a rusty heap sitting in a front garden, I bet you can,

I guess they do - to the best of their ability.

It does now - which makes sense. It didn't use to - you had to renew it every year.

It was changed many years ago but in the early days SORN definitely used to have to be renewed annually.

This was indeed the case and you had to renew your ownership of a private plate every year too. Not so now.

I have a 1990 BMW R80RT sat in my domestic garage - that was sorned in 2004.

I too have never "re sorned" it...?

Turbo is in N Ireland which is DVA not DVLA so may have been slightly different timings.

If they, the DVLA can confirm the details with the MID database how did they know it 'wasn't insured'?
As a well known blond gentleman who once ran the country recently said - we are becoming more of a 'police state' than the well know police states....

I SORNed a scooter in 2022. I sold it recently, but never had to apply again after the initial registration.

SORN changed from declaring annually to declaring once after the budget in 2013.

As we all know, its all about the money these days, and just about everyone makes it easy to pay a fine. Dartford Crossing and TFL are others.

Does your tractor have insurance in its own right ? Had to quote the reg number and no other vehicles on the policy, or is it multi vehicle or a blank farm policy ?

I have a JCB 3CX . Tax exempt but it is insured. No MOT needed it must be roadworthy though ( to be driven on roads) the road worthyness is down to me.

Definitely - some time after 2005 when I started work where I am now, as I bought the car off a guy at work, so has to be at least 2006 or 7 - remembering ringing DVAL from my desk and telling the lass at the other end that I know it's not her fault, but I'm pretty annoyed at having to pay a fine . . .

I guess the idea was like taxing a car, same systems, so had to declare every year. No idea when it changed, but now declare it and it remains until you tax it, or scrap it.

You don't have to go through with the payment - I bet it won't let you go through to payment.

Yes, always had its own policy, never had a multi vehicle policy.
