Rod disaster

Push the rod in closer, and slow down travel speed, turn amperage up.
No wet out on lower plate at the left end, flip flops back and forth to which plate
is fused.

Right end almost looks pretty good at the very end.

Watch for wetting, manipulate the rod to accomplish this first.

Maybe get a grinding disk or a flap disk and grind down to shiny metal before welding might help.

Start with a horizontal bead, start basic.

For 5mm with a 2.5 rod set to100 to 110+ amps, strike the arc, and hold the rod at 70/75 degrees of drag angle from the joint/weld surface in the direction of travel, Now lower the arc length until the rod is just above or lightly touching the metal.
The correct travel speed is when the arc is just over/in front of the weld pool

Slow down the travel speed if the weld has holes in it, or speed up if the weld pool or slag surrounding the rod...

Starting and obtaining the correct arc length can take loads of practice, some people just get it, it took me ages but once you start getting smooth, hole free welds it feels great, then you look forward to your first peeler.....

Sadly your a bit to far away for me, but there's plenty of members up that way to help if need be....

Well that helps no end....

Ok, I suspect it's probably a 40-140 ampage buzz box, start by winding the ampage control fully in or out, now if the arc is small and sticky that's probably the low end, if it's easy to start with a fiery arc its the high end.

So now wind the control knob to the other end and count the number of turns (say its 15 full turns) min to max is 100 amps so 1 turn equals 6.6 amps, so 110 amps would be 5 turns approx down from the high end or 10 turns approx up from the low end (working on the assumption that it's a 40-140 ampage welder.....

The best ampage control in this case is your ear, your after a short arc that sounds like frying bacon in a hot pan.

The only other way is if you know someone who might have an amp clamp...

Grind back to shiny metal! Include the area where your earth clamp is too (also check the contact faces of earth clamp - not rusty and clean). Practice getting a good bead on a single piece of metal using different amperages first - corner welds have their own learning curve

Just keep practicing with the buzzbox - flat runs, no joints, just clean the base metal to shiny, scribe a line and follow it. With the right amps you can just about rest the tip of the rod on the pool, no weaving needed. Post pics of base metal before and after runs on here.
As stated, if the rod sticks on striking constantly wind the amps up. If the rod is glowing red hot to the holder at the end of a 6 inch run you may have the amps a touch high, but you should still get a bead. Pictures please.

Ps I have39 turns on my dial so I'm thinking 3-1x23 turns up =110 amps

Possibly you'd have to check the data sheet for it, or contact A and ask.

Appears to be 16 amp spec input and there's a 13 amp plug on it in the picture, so you maybe ok?

Lincoln arcweld rods are carp . That's your problem , right there !
If your local supplier does lincoln rods , try lincoln omnia 46 .
They're very similar to them nexus rods .
