Hi here are some photos of a cleaned up 5mm plate using the dreaded Lincoln arcweld6013
I have tried to put some of the advice you all have giving me into practice and am able to strike an arc easier
It's quite apparent that I need more technique on the welds
I don't always manage to see what is happening with the weld pool ? Cheers guys

Looking at weld beads on the plate, I'd turn the amps up by 2 or 3 turns. The weld beads look good but a bit high hence turning up the power.
Use the same travel speed.
Also do you have an angle grinder? The plate could do with a good grind before you start practicing again.

Grind it back to shiny metal, it really makes a difference.

I actually used a flap disk on it and it realy looked shiny on completion I think shadowing on the photo is making it look partly cleaned thanks for your feedback

Flap disc is not the same a grinding wheel.

Cool . I have the same welder, my one was left at side of a swamp for years. Over certain amount it’s only small duty cycle. Not sure what, but not much.

My one, near higher end, when warm the arc won’t relight.

yes as already mentioned , a flapper can just polish up the rust/dirt, a grinding wheel is more abrasive and cuts through to bare metal.
