That BDA was one of Gordan Allens creations as well, he had 7 alloy blocks cast to match the Cosworth head to a mini gearbox.
Guy at our local Grasstrack used to have one in the eighties.

That I didn’t know. I saw a magazine article in the 70s possibly in Hot Car or CCC covering fitting a Xflow engine to a Mini gearbox , I think it used an extension bolted to the crank to take a Mini flywheel ?

Manx Racing and a couple of other companies did that conversion, I forget the names though. He (Allen) also made one piece cranks for the crossflow conversions they normally had a bolt on extension for the ford crank to use the mini flywheel/clutch. Allen was never happy with this bodge and had the facilities to make a block and crank so he did. IIRC it was him that did the Imp conversion as well very talented man.

My brother got an engine done for him by SC several years ago.
It’s finally up and running although still going through some teething issues it’s in the car and running.
Like most people on the forum it seems
I’ve got a head laying in the shed somewhere. It’ll probably end up in a Marcos once it gets off the some day pile.
One thing i would say is that in a round nose it’s pretty tight for access to stuff. I’m pretty sure is engine out for the belt change, access quite tricky for ancillaries etc.
I think a flip front is a good choice…
I’m enjoying the progress everybody keep it coming.

Probably ok with rad out I would say - flip front has got a lot harder now since the new rules came in, technically needs an sva. But everything is tight in a mini, better than a diesel Audi A3 though...My brother got an engine done for him by SC several years ago.

I'm not knocking; but who the hell comes up with these ideas and makes them work?
Possibly a bit mad? arguably pointless? but quite quite wonderful

Now now don't confuse with this Rover k series stuff.Not BMW, a Rover K series car engine
Under discussion is the fitting of a BMW k series motorbike engine head on a mini block. Why? To get some decent performance under a mini bonnet, without resorting to cutting up the bodyshell or subframe.
Now, if you want to, you can fit a complete engine and gearbox from a Rover (confusingly also a k series), a Honda, Vauxhall, Daihatsu turbo, Nissan Micra, Suzuki, or any other fwd compact car. They will all be faster than most tuned mini engines.
Having owned a 1400 tuned mini or two, I can say simply, a modern 1600 16 valve engine will knock spots off it. A standard Rover k 1.6 on Dellorto carbs was quicker by a lot, the thing just gobbled up gears, it was a right hooligan machine.
So this bmw bike head (an 8 valve) version, is going onto a 1275 road engine, with electronic ignition and fuelling.
Also, I plan to build a 1000cc turbocharged 16 valve version for competing in hillclimbs, where the rules state you have to use the original engine block... Fun yes, expensive yes more than likely.

Bore spacings are very very similar for the 1275 engine. From what I remember the valves aren’t totally aligned with pistons when fitted, although this can be improved by offsetting if reboring for bigger pistons.
People have fitted the 8v to 998 engines to good effect but I think a pocket has to be machined away from the top of the block/piston wall to make a space for some of the valves.
So in my book it doesn’t fit the smaller block, as you must get quite considerable valve shrouding because of that. Mind you, you don’t need as much flow for a smaller engine. In any case it just doesn’t seem okay to me.
In my head the paired bore spacing on a 998 engine would lend itself to shortening a bike head with a central cam chain like a 90’s Yamaha. The 600 head doesn’t have the footprint and I’ve never been in the room with a fz750 or fzr1000, to be fair by now if it was a goer someone would have done it by now.
@minimutly ’s 1000 engine would be a 1275 block decked to take a short stroke crank like a 970 cooper engine. Or extra long Conrods for crazy revs.

Or maybe a 998 respaced block bored and sleeved which I think is what the chap in @Popcorn s link did. (Again from memory)
