Synthetic winch rope for the Hilux.

The wire rope has been rusty since before I bought the truck, and has obviously signs of being mistreated when used for skidding logs by the previous owner.

I uhmmed and ahhhed about whether dynema was durable enough for certain situations but ultimately decided that the cost of a rope protector would be a lot less than buying a new rope every couple of years due to corrosion.

I need to clean up the rollers on the fairlead before it's installed, but that won't take much.

Not sure where I am going to find a 30M long flat space to tension it onto the drum though... Might have to do that by pulling against a mate's car in a supermarket car park late at night.

When I fitted a winch to my RR I just fixed the end to a lamp post and winched myself towards it and when I did the Landy a mate came to give me a hand as we had to lift a bumper/bullbar complete with winch up so when it was on I hooked the rope onto the towhitch of his Sherpa van and with the handbrake clicked on a couple of notches pulled it back towards me.

It's the space to do it on the flat so that it's not under an excessive load whilst the first layer goes round the drum hat's the issue... Bloody hills!

I did debate doing it off a lamp-post, but this triggered a memory of a mate at uni accidentally pulling two lamp posts down by building a gigantic swing between them with rope...

Turns out lamp posts are not always very well anchored in the ground, and it was about 4.5k in early noughties money to reinstate one.

(Said mate had to pay the uni for both lamp-posts before he could get his degree certificate issued.)

Its a Colchester Master and came with most of it's bits. It was at the right money too so had to be done, a couple days with it next week should see it up and running. I think I'll start by giving it a good clean.

I am extremely curious how that's fitting into the workshop, I seem to remember it's a wee bit tight there.

Unless you've now finished your move, or discovered that one of the tooling cupboards has a portal to Narnia at the back of it!

To be honest, if I bought another screwdriver and took it into my workshop there would be nowhere to put it, I am struggling to fit my current stuff properly. No, I have access to another workshop not too far away and I now keep all my welding and cutting gear down there. I am very hopeful that my new Canon barrels project will fit between centres, Then I am off and running.

I've not had a proper chance to look yet (FBMP Purchase 125 miles away, and only got back late last evening, so no real time to examine it) but it appears there are 3 bolts each at 120deg which must secure it to the top collar somehow.

I think it's a brake shoes riveter conversion

Got my new to me GEDORE #1B spanners set delivered on yesterday.
Missing few sizes (believe 34-36) from the original complete 26 pcs set I think they belong from.

They are longer than my Beta Art.42 surely thicker open end, different box end style

Here a comparison between the 32mm spanners because they are big and easier to notice

I've seen them brand new sold for around 800 euro, so I think that they're worth the 100 euro expense

A "Non runner" MS200 locally which is actually a runner when I added fresh fuel it fired right up

And a shoemakers anvil for £15. No I'm not going into shoe making but the shape of it should be really handy for me forming small metal repair sections for cars. Have this sitting beside my Rigid anvil and have a quick way to form curves with a hammer and no need for a hand dolly or dolly held in a vice.
