Sorry, I get fed up with the constant barrage of lies and misinformation that "journalists" get published. Some people even believe it!Golly! It was only a Monday morning giggle![]()
That didn't end well, as I recall !
I have not read a newspaper for many years, and you only have to look at the vast majority of "news" articles published on the internet to see this. Even the weather forecast cant be trusted !Sorry, I get fed up with the constant barrage of lies and misinformation that "journalists" get published. Some people even believe it!
It will take time and just when you think you have another head under your roof it will go backwards a step or two, that has been my experience. You are obviously patient, that is definitely a plus for you and your guest. Our feral cum stray, Tarzan.
He is gradually coming round, and is now eating indoors, although he like the door to remain open. He doesn't seem to panic though if it is closed. He just sits by the door protesting loudly. He has learnt that being fussed is the price that must be paid to be fed, and has made no attempt to swipe, or bite. We leave the door open so he can explore at his own pace, although he does disappear for most of the day.
The other day he decided to come upstairs, and decided he quite likes the woodburner.

My last cat used to bring in the occasional bat, they eat the midges though so need to keep them. That'd be some seriously different ethnic cuisine if the Scots started canning bats......
Very wise.....My last cat used to bring in the occasional bat, they eat the midges though so need to keep them.
The last but one incumbent was a wily British Blue. He had two locations for his food, the fridge (AKA great white god) and at the opposite end of the kitchen a crate with his dry and wet food plus medicines. If he wanted a prawn or some chicken or ham he would sit in front of the fridge silently. If he wanted regular wet food or croquettes he would sit in front of the crate. His can opener sonar had an effective range of 15 metres. All of mine, down the years, could recognise the sound of cold meat being opened or unwrapped from the far side of the house or field.
A couple of them really got good at hooking a flying slice of ham out of the air.
If it had been a caramel wafer they would have been queuing up!
Unusual. Our latest kitten Barney arrived fully litter tray trained at 8 weeks old. Not a single accident this last 4 weeks. As for the assertion that every cat knows what a litter box is, well I found the exception that proves the rule, there is definitely room for progress on that front
Great that you did all this for him. If he his a truly outdoor cat, he may never have seen a litter tray, and will be hankering to get outside. All our previous cats have never had a litter tray, and always go outside. I have never found any evidence that they do the unmentionables at all. I have watched them disappear into the bushes and dig a hole and carefully cover it afterwards. Just as well because I don't like litter trays indoors anyway.Probably in a Marcus Bentley flat geordie delivery: "Day 7 and the errant black cat is not a happy camper".
He has to remain incarcerated for eight more days because he requires antibiotics (Clindaseptin) daily for ten days. When the vet dealt with his dislocated femur he found a scabbed over puncture wound nearby. The wound had a large abscess that stretched from the puncture almost to his belly. He drained and irrigated it and put two drains in to clear the rest. I brought him home the following day and he dripped a cocktail of thin pus and blood onto the parquet. Thursday I took him back to have the drains taken out. Two trips to the vet in four days is more than enough for most cats so me being the one guilty of causing his terror is being given a wide berth. He still sleeps outside my bedroom door but if I move in the night he moves too and slopes off to my partners room for a few minutes then sneaks back when the coast is clear. As for the assertion that every cat knows what a litter box is, well I found the exception that proves the rule, there is definitely room for progress on that front. He can leave the building in eight days and make his own mind up regarding his tenure here, he is welcome on his own terms.
I don't think this one has ever seen a litter until this last week and I guess he is 2 years old or less now, he has grown in height and length since we first saw him. My pet theory, one of several between my neighbours is that he was a farm cat with zero tenure and got moved on by the competition at a young age. He landed at my neighbours a year ago sleeping in a barn and trolled my yard probably looking for food, he chose wisely. There are a lot of secretive known of barn dwelling cats near us, some of them fed, some just tolerated that feed themselves and know humans but give a wide berth. All of them will have problems with mites, tics, fleas and various gut parasites and all curse their own by reproducing, prolifically, it seems to be a tough business being a cat.Unusual. Our latest kitten Barney arrived fully litter tray trained at 8 weeks old. Not a single accident this last 4 weeks.
This one is incarcerated until (checks notes) February 16 or 17. If I caved and let him out he will return to habitude and miss his medicine. He is frustrated, I am frustrated for him, had things progressed at the glacial pace of the last year and he had he not been fighting too much or maybe taking a fall, probably fighting, that would have suited both of us. Circumstances have forced all at our place to adjust, especially the errant cat.Great that you all this for him. If he his a truly outdoor cat, he may never have seen a litter tray, and will be hankering to get outside. All or previous cats have never had a litter tray, and always go outside. Even out semi feral house guest has not disgraced himself yet. He has learnt to use the catflap to go out, but does not come in using it. Yet.
At the moment, he is curled up on the spare bed. Has only ventured in to living room once, up to now.
