Multi tool blade refurb

2nd attempt at this.
Sorted.
A seven quid panel saw from Wickes and knackered cheapo multi tool blades, two cuts with the grinder and a few seconds of welding.
Lap welded, full weld across the top tacks on the bottom ground flush.
Skirting boards are done for.

I'll dig out the dead blades
If I can find them

Should we mention that the panel saw used to provide the blade needs to be what is called 'double ground' - it cuts on the pull and push stroke.

The blade of a standard saw, which only cuts on the push stroke, might not be so good for a tool that oscillates.

Also a standard panel saw has a much thicker blade than a multitool blade. I wonder if a tenon saw with a thinner blade would work for this and be closer in thickness to a bought multitool blade.

That explains why MkI was not much cop. The double ground teeth are much more betterer at the job.
Thickness? These are a bit thicker but do the job. And you get lots for seven quid
I'll try a tenon saw when I run out.

I've found buying expensive blades is pointless. They don't last long, no matter the brand. I just buy whatever is cheap & suitable, nowadays.

Thanks for the tenon saw suggestion. I can only speak of my own experience, but for me the best blades for wood are the Japanese tooth type (e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224625492276), which look similar to but have even deeper teeth to the double cut saws.

yes they cut well and good but dont last any longer than all the others and well expensive if you get through a fair few at work . thats why i buy cheapo ones now

Drove 30 mins to my nearest Lidl in Dartmouth to get one of the oscillating multi-toos tools. Picked up the last one and a few spare blades. Drove back home and took the tool out of the box only to find the quick blade release mechanism was broken and the on-off switch only working intermittently. Drove back to Dartmouth, got in the queue got a no hassle refund and back home. Only the second failure out of quite a few Lidl buys.

Can anyone recommend an alternative oscillating multi-tool?

spend 120 quid and buy a dewalt one . if your diy it will last you forever used mine every week for the last 4 years at work and home

If you mean pricewise, unless you purchase from Ali, I don't know.

From the UK, nearest pricewise, not necessarily brand reliability.

Mine's a Dewalt cordless, I purchased it for £80, use Makita batteries with it and it's been reliable, I have a corded type to.

I have an Aldi multi tool thing, never used it. I cant think what it would be good for except to cut skirtings. The last time I did skirting I just ripped it off and replaced..

It would make a slightly wider cut but I think a mini pruning chainsaw would get into all the same places if cutting skirting or soft materials.

Theres also a silly over priced bosch nano chainsaw that would have a similar cut with to a multi tool.

Theres several of the Fakita brushless multi tools on amazon for around 40 quid.
