A couple of years ago I made some little insertion tools for heat-set inserts (that screw, via an M7×1 thread, onto the end of my gas soldering iron):
Yesterday, I designed a 3D-printed part that had an M5 insert in a slightly awkward place, where the length of the soldering iron wouldn't fit straight up from the hole for the insert. I'd pondered just heating one of the above setting tools and using a pair of pliers to hold the setting tool and push the insert into place, but I decided that it wouldn't take long to make a two-part dog-leg setting tool:

Bit of progress on the plasma table. Actually a lot more progress, got the water tray into place, but then completely ruined one end by trying to unwarp an area using some heat. Made an absolute mess of it, and took the huff. Will have to buy another sheet of steel and remake one end. Oh well.
Then i did some alterations to some nylon parts for a company. Turned the shoulders down from 60mm to 54mm. Quick and easy.

Destroyed the stayer Len 200 switch attempting to loosen up the corroded screws.
1 screwdriver
2 hammer and screwdriver
3 impact driver
4 pliers
5 solder flux and soldering iron tempting to eliminate corrosion and transfer heat to make the flux run through the threads.
Didn't work
6 drill through the wire hole to reduce the portion of the screws that I've eventually drilled through.
Unfortunately the brass insert break a part.
Not a fail it's still salvageable.
I'll solder small length of wire directly to it because a similar switch apparently is more than 80 euro plus I have no time to waste waiting for it.
Prior to this little step back I've successfully soldered new wire to the stator windings because they were completely rotten.
Called the day.
I still have 2 days to achieve the goal otherwise it would be for Friday

Had some time for my mates KM111R, hopefully return it very soon and get some more space back.
Reassembled the carb, new primer bulb and cleaned out. A lot of cleaning, whole 600ml can of brake cleaner. I still need to order a new air filter.
It now primes and starts first pull, idles nicely although maybe could use a few rpm increase.

Ended up ordering a new switch but it will not arrive until 2025.
Plan B a modified household switch to look like the original switch essentially the lever glued on to it

I've been playing with AI stuff again, which has distracted me from doing some more important tasks, but one needs a distraction once in a while.
I thought I'd try making a 4K-resolution steampunk screen saver. I started by asking Firefly to generate a steampunk-style image full of pipes, valves, and gauges, all in one pass.
The result (below) was interesting, but I was disappointed in the distortion and lack of detail in many of the features.
So, I then used Firefly to generate individual replacements for the gauges and other features. Creating them individually greatly improved the detail. I also used Firefly to generate a number of new features, such as lights, steam jets, buttons, etc. The image below (with the original image dropped out) shows many of the individual features that I replaced or added with Firefly.
Below is the result of the combination of the original image and the new individually-generated features. Note that there was a lot of trial-and-error involved, since not all generated images integrated well, and I also did quite a bit of retouching.
I may do some further refinement on the image, but I'm pretty happy with the result, as I'm new to this AI imaging stuff.

Made this contraption for a temporary fix for the stayer restoration.
New switch is on the way but it will take a lot of time I don't have really.
I've washed the plastics they are waiting for polishing probably on tomorrow.
Addressed all the electrical faults .
Still have to polishing the plastics as said up above.
Cold blue or paint which might be the better solution for the application as I can't keep the tool oiled because of the dust.
Reassemble finish editing and uploading.
Hopefully tomorrow it'll be completed at worse it'll be uploaded on Christmas instead of Eve

No today but the last week or so I've had a few jobs on the go for my dad on the farm.
First up a security/sheeted door for the hay barn which is mostly used for storage as the weather has been so carp this year we haven't made any hay!
It has a built in pedestrian door as 90% of the time it's just one person going in to grab something, so saves having the door take off in the wind.
Big door can only be opened from inside, little door locks from the outside.
I braced the back as there's quite a bit of weight to it compared to a normal sheeted door. 3 hinges too.
Also made an adaptor for the skid steer, to allow use of the new yard scraper which is a 3pt mount (also has an a frame mount but that would have been more awkward to modify). Saved me grinding galv off a brand new implement, and the adaptor will likely fit other 3pt kit we have.
Really impressed with the brackets I got from sparex, they're usually 6mm max, these are pretty much all 10mm plate! Hopefully stop my dad bending them!!
All welded up, plenty of bracing. The angle is because when fully crowded back the headstock isn't vertical on this machine.
The new scraper, gald my welding is better than theirs...
Also made these for a customer.
They're 500mm tall for scale... Should be able to see that from the street!

This job must be about 3 years overdue!
Mobile base so I can move my not-so-light pillar drill with the aid of a pallet truck. All made from salvaged scrap.
Next job, wire up the 380V VFD including a foot stop switch (mounted to front of base).

My son in law has written a couple of books so we have decorated a few items for Christmas with his logo on.
The t shirt has the small logo on the front and his name and a larger logo on the back.
The other pieces are magnets, patches and a pencil case.
All dye sublimation using an Epson eco tank printer and a really cheap heat press.

Getting sick of pulling my pressure washer bowser trailer around (parking, speed restricted, etc) so knocked up a van install with bits i had. Made a wooden tray and fiberglassed it to keep back of van dry, water goes into a drain plug and through van floor on to road. Anyway 13hp 200bar 21 lpm pump. Just using a wheelie bin atm for my buffer tank as i have a 250l slim tank on order. I have made this modular so by taking the whole tray out it removes everything should you want to change vans or just get the van back without the washer in it.

Failed completely
Perfectly polished the handle of the stayer Len 200 no sanding needed.
The main plastic body/motor housing got a ton of varnish, spray glue and epoxy clear coat that even using a rotary orbital sander 80grit came off.
Ended up painting it.
I hate paint on plastics because it a shortcut into the restoration project and it's not genuine because it doesn't birth like that.
Anyways in this case I've had no choice because of the conditions and the plastic composition and damage.
Fortunately at least it's not a part you actually touch and mess up easily with your hands.
I'll apply PVC clear coat on tomorrow for extra protection, it's already dry but I want it to cure overnight

A starter panel for my pillar drill to avoid turning it on and off from the socket (ahem!).
Made from bits I’ve had kicking around from various jobs at work - so didn’t actually cost anything apart from a few quid for the abs box from Screwfix. I’ll add some spiral wrap to the wires to tidy them up before it gets mounted on the drill.
I’d have liked to stick a proper overload in there but the box was a bit tight for space, I might try and squeeze one in by removing the terminals or put a fused terminal in there - a fuse in the plug will suffice for now, it’s been like that for about 3 years so a bit longer won’t hurt…
