No, I think it is upright along the long side, I should have rotated the image.

If it's on something with only a single reverse lamp, then chances are it's something with a single fog lamp, which means the reverse lamp would be on the NS, as a single fog lamp has to legally be on the OS (or at least somewhere between the centre line, and OS).

I'm thinking something Japanese, as I can't think of any European make using that style of lens.

It is single side for sure, same as my two vehicles, I bought used lights off ebay to reverse sides when I imported them and swapped the wiring sides to suit.

I think its a van too. I have been trawling the net for a match but it's mind numbing work, I know why I am not interested in being a detective.

Defo not, his 156 would have been wiped out, the gate post weighs perhaps 3/4 ton and its damaged. The BANG! was loud, by the time I exited the house to run to the road he was haring off up the road with no lights on.

I will tack the bits together with a few spots of glue and take a pic of the profile, or section, it looks to be quite narrow. I am so certain I have seen one like it before. If I know the vehicle type I know enough people who can finger it, who owns it.

I know just how you feel... its bugged me from the moment I saw it that I know it but can't place it. This is the closest thing I've seen (but it bugs me there us a Euro hatchback with long, thin lights that I just can't bring to mind).
However, when you see this light cluster in context/in situ - I think it's the right idea... but think the clear lens isn't quite right.

The lenticular ripples on the Volvo light are oriented vertically, in order to spread the light out horizontally, where it matters, which is why I think the original light fitting's long axis was horizontal.

Reconstruction

There’s enough of the clear part of the lens to determine that the bottom of the clear bit is definitely straight after that rounded corner, so that immediately rules out anything with a rounded clear section at the bottom which most have.

The shade of red dates it too, it isn’t as deep and clear of a red colour as the newer vehicles, it’s something around 20 years old.
