Is this Jacobs No 34 chuck arbor removable?

I would like to remove the arbor (not just the welded adapter) from the chuck. Is this possible?

It doesn't appear to be screwed on (I've tried turning) and it doesn't seem to be a press fit (I've tried whacking with a punch from inside the chuck). I'm assuming is must be a press fit, but...

Someone butchered and chopped the original arbor, so I welded the adapter on. I now want to entirely remove the arbor/ adapter. I could add a groove or cross drill, but I'm not sure it will come out. I guess there's one way to know.

All mine have been, but they have also mentioned the taper size on the chuck. I'd gently warm it up (loctite?), hold the tang in a vice and give the chuck a tap with a hammer.

all i did was put the flat tangof the sleeve in the vice tight and gave the chuck a good whack with a drift hard against the sleeve and back of the chuck and off it came

The groove is visible. You're going to have trouble with that. Clearly someone else has tried to remove the arbour and failed.

If it ever came off the chuck will have JT6 (Jacobs Taper) engraved where all the other lettering is. Otherwise it may have been threaded

I have a No 34 at work but can't remember if the arbour is visible inside the chuck.

Mine are both visible, but they may have been drilled by a previous owner.

Little googling suggests the arbour is not visible from the front but designs do change.

Well, I thought I could see the arbour from inside the chuck, but maybe I'm mistaken. Perhaps it's just scoring from poorly tightened twist drills. I reckon the easiest extract will be to drill from the chuck side then hit out using a punch.

You may well have, but it will not be a Jacobs No. 34. Every specific model number of (genuine) Jacobs chuck has one and only one taper associated with it.

Hold the arbor to your ear and tap on the inside of the chuck with the jaws open. There will be a different sound if you are tapping directly on the arbor to if you are tapping on the chuck body.

When you drill the hole from the front, make it tapping size for a grease nipple. If punching does not work, you can fill the cavity with oil, screw in a nipple and pump it off with a grease gun.

A final, last ditch, alternative to punching it out from the front is to drill it out from the back and bore out the remains. You need to look up the dimensions of a JT6 to know what is the maximum size drill you can use and the taper angle to set the topslide.

Drilling the back and using a punch didn't work. I'm about to try @Agroshield suggestion. Had to make a nipple extender first...
