I've not got that far yet. I need to go through my terminal box and see what I've got.

I spent over an hour last night going through RS trying to decide on contactors for the Servo/VFD power control that wouldn't cost too much, and whether I wanted to use 24VDC or 240VAC coils.

If you decide to go 24v dc give me a shout, I have quite a few of various sorts left over from a job. (No 24v ac though, I’ll have a check but I don’t think they are ac/dc rated) I’ve got loads of terminals kicking around too too!

The Megadyne catalogue has good, old fashioned design guidance in real words and pictures, rather than 'apps' (I used it for the baby TB2 poly-V drive on my little CNC, but I'm guessing yours will be J section).

I opted for 240AC, as the 24VDC supply I bought is only about 2A, and most (cheaper!) contactors seem to need 2A to pull in.
Even if I went for the PLC compatible contactors, they need ~500mA, and the controller can only handle 250mA, so I'd need to use some form of interface relay anyway, which means there's no real benefit to going 24VDC and it would cost me a bigger 24VDC PSU.

I've opted for 2 4pole contactors, so I can have a power on delay to avoid all the drives/VFDs powering up at once.

Off course, I could have just went for a few big relays, but DIN rail mounted ones capable of switching several KW rated drives don't work out that much cheaper than contactors.

Ah ok, no worries. I had a quick check and the ones I have are dc only unfortunately. I do have some low current coil ones, think they were 100mA draw or something (might be less)…I bought them to use as a safety controller I used only had transistor outputs, but I ended up using an interface relay anyway so didn’t require them in the end. I’ll drop you a pm

On backshift this week, so workshop time is limited, but managed to get the 10 holes for the control boards drilled and tapped.
Can get the back panel back into the control cabinet now, then drill some more holes for a few bits that need mounted on the base.

Leylandii butchery. Previously been badly butchered with the tops cut to about 5 meters and then the outer branches allowed to hit about 12m or so. Then, built a large brick shed and want the trees cut right back and topped 4m lower The centre stems are all dead.

The roof was quite handy as I did a lot of the cutting from the roof.

A new record for me, 4 tanks of fuel through the Echo 2511 in one day.

Stainless arrived today so got it cut up and welded to make a rudder. Still have a bit of tidying to do but more or less finished.

Butter, today I made butter, just double cream and salt plus elbow grease of course. Just a bowl a fork and half a gallon of double cream.



I have about a gallon left so more tomorrow. You can deep freeze butter with no ill effects.

My neices boyfriend has a dairy farm with some jersey cows. When she's helping with milking some of the Jersey milk is kept separate and she uses it to make her own butter. She uses a food processor.

Yes, in the past I have used a Kenwood and even a real butter churn, my family were all dairymen, myself included for a while and sometimes it's just nice to get back to basics. As, like most people, I am guilty of over complicating my life so simple is often a good reality check.

Job for another day - and another pay.. we done what the customer asked.

Some might grow, if theres light. Leylandii are quite poor at epicormic growth but over time it can fill out although a lot might die if conditions are not great. I have seen hedges that were cut right back to the trunk on one side and 4 years later has strong regrowth.

i had 5 of them die with the bugs that kill them i cut all the dead branches back and let the rest grow out over for a year then made some frames up of bamboo and tiewraped them in to the gaps the good branches were 2 foot long so pulled them across the gap and tie wraped them to the frame. this is the second year now and they have filled the gap and grown nicely you cant tell

Got the rudder finished then moved on to the tank hatch.
I first had to make a cap from some Acetal, bored and and turned a 1.3/4" BSP thread on the manual lathe.

Then into the mill and machined the top.

Turned the OD of the plate I cut on the plasma yesterday then welded in the stainless fitting.

Bored the holes in the plate and job done.

Next up was a surround for a switch panel.

Then cut some 3mm stainless on the plasma and started welding up a hydraulic tank, still have the bottom to weld on then make a fitting for the filter and valve.

A replacement M30 X 1.5 mm coolant drain fitting for the milling machine table. The original design has a ridged steel pipe pressed into the threaded fitting, the new one will have a flexible pipe fitted.
