Turning off water at meter?

I'm not home yet,
Main stopcock on the pipe coming into the house has been dripping since the weekend and apparently it's now spraying!

I'll need to find the cover to the meter and turn off the water there.
I've never looked in there before, I'm about to go into screwfix and grab a new stopcock, Anything I'll need to get to turn off the water at the meter?
I'm presuming there is some method of stopping it there?

Usually another stopcock in there. Hopefully not seized!

With my meter there's stop valve and there's a tool with an hexagonal end (like a big Allen key) sits in there to close the valve. Thinks it's made of plastic so not prone to seizing.

Modern ones you can turn off by hand, older ones require a special tool but from memory a 14mm bi-hex(12 point) socket fits

On mine its about 2 foot 6 down a narrow hole usually full of water…..a pump is very handy tosee what your doing. Mine looks like a 90 degree type thing, made of plastic. I use a piece of 1 “ box with two sides to turn it about 5 turns to stop flow.

also as a last resort if its MDPE pipe you can squeeze it off between two scaff poles or similar drilled either side threaded rod through it, often easier to do underground somewhere though

A 19mm socket fits, at least it fits my plastic one.

Now I just need a stopcock that connects between 22mm Plastic and 15mm copper..

If you've got a tank in the loft then isolate or drain it too otherwise there will be water everywhere...which is what I did the first time round!

Also don't just assume the incoming is 15mm unless it's a newish house...I usually leave the old nut and olive on just in case.

Sure that's not 25mm MDPE to 15mm Copper, if so, this should do.

Might get away with tightening the nut that holds the seal in place on the top....the leave till morning!

Just check it's 15mm...and not half a crown and 6 pence....I've been caught out many times. They do conversion olives...but that knowledge is useless when the shops are closed!

Standard blue MDPE is either 20mm or 25mm.

25mm MDPE to 15mm copper TS 38361 or SF 86048. 20mm MDPE to 15mm copper SF 98486. Both use an olive on the MDPE.

You can buy an MDPE universal transistion coupling (https://www.gasandwaterpipelines.co...-x-15-22mm-universal-transition-coupling.html) that takes 15-22mm at one end and 25mm blue at the other. You would also need a short length of 25mm blue to go into a standard stop tap.

I've got a 22mm-22mm stopcock and a 22-15mm reducer.
