As this is a welding forum…..how about cut out burnt bent bit. Cut new piece of 3 mm plate, bow slightly to suit. Stick weld it in place!

Why do folk want to over complicate everything. Simple is good.

@Kram what was that 5L of stuff you gave me, something silicate?

Would that act as a binder with ordinary Portland cement if I got a bag of vermiculite? I've also got a load of glass fibres left over from a slab pour. Thinking I make my own liner.

Tbh I would weld a plate in, 5 mins job.

Sodium sillicate is the bottle. Yes its good upto 1700c as it turns to sillica upon heating.

Portland cement is not good much above 500c I believe it breaks down easily.

Vermiculite or perlite (I gave you a bag) is likely wrong stuff for this as its highly insulating but fragile when bound.

Ideally refractory bricks or mix in a load of alumina grit as that has a very good high melting point if you can get any cheap enough.

3d print a shuttering to hold the mix and use alumina plus sodium sillicate. Let it set for a while then heat slowely.

The best refractory bricks tend to be 70%+ alumina as its good for 1900c.

Thanks for all the replies. Getting anything ready made doesn't seem possible. I've emailed Franco Belge even.

As I understand it then, I buy some vermiculite board, measure up inside the stove, maybe make card templates, then cut the board. Fit into the stove and seal with what at the joints between boards?

(Probably better tbh to measure before ordering the board).

Buy a tub of fire cement. It's ready mixed like putty and costs a couple of quid.

Then, pushing the sides in, the back split right down the middle where it was pressing on the bulge where the back has warped. A jagged break, I packed with fire cement.

Could I...

Bolt a length of say 25x5 mild steel bar across the top of that back section to stop it coming apart when the cement join inevitably cracks. Less to stop the cement cracking, more to keep the two halves in position. Once they move it affects the joints with the side bits etc.

There were various options voiced in the thread. Landlady didn't want that. A full repair panel is available but she wanted as cheap as possible.

I seriously think that fire was fine as it was with the warped plate. The bricks seem to have reduced the area for burning by about 20% if not more.

if you had of cut it and left an 1" on either side that firebrick would have fitted nice and straight all the way across the back

Sorry, don't really understand what you mean.

It was nice and straight as per the first picture.

if you had cut out the bent metal plate therefore the fireboard would have fitted near on levelish to where the original plate was

nothing wrong with that at all,unless you want to stare at it all day worrying ffs,long as it does the job
