I don't have an issue using eBay, and have used it extensively over the last twenty years for buying.
I don't sell via eBay so have no interest in linking a bank account to it, and up until this point have never needed to because I have a paypal account with funds in which I can use to pay for goods instantly.

My issue is, after twenty years of promptly paying, it is now considered unacceptable to use paypal because "I'm now a payment risk", and if I wish to continue to use the platform I have to go and set up and manage another bank account.

If they want to apply the changes to new accounts, which presumably are the ones which are at risk of "non-payment", I'm fine with that.
But in addition to the inconvenience of having it foisted upon you and not finding out until you go to buy an item, I find the reasoning (and insinuation I'm now classed as a payment risk) pretty insulting itself.
What's the point in even having a feedback system if it doesn't count for anything? I don't believe for a moment it can be hard for them to work out which accounts are the issue.

It's hardly my problem they sold off paypal because the shareholders wanted to cash in....
I just hate being BS'd. They should just be honest and say they don't support paypal anymore and they want to control their own escrow service instead.
Essentially that's all it boils down to.

I think we have to consider the reason for a linked Bank Account. It is to act as a source of funds if you misrepresent something you are selling on the platform.

Would you be happy if you bought a £150 phone from me on ebay and we disputed the condition and you could not get a refund out the back end because I decided to ignore the notifications and not address the matter and had no funds linked.

You may argue that Ebay should foot the bill and that may be true but they are avoiding that scenario by making people link their accounts.

So it's there for that reason and since I provide clear descriptions and respond to buyer queries should they arrise, I do not find any cause for concern in linking my bank account.

just had a quick squint on ebay. Not sure if Im getting this but it looks like you have to withdraw your money from them when you've made a sale? They changed to the bank transfer a few years back which if a sale took place on a Friday could take till the following Tuesday to show up in my account. They then kept pestering you to send it before it even showed up. Other times Ive had to send the item before they release the funds, which was another money making scam for them. I think they are relying on people leaving the money in eBay's account, its a take on the old PayPal method by the sounds of it......how much interest / day will that generate for the bottom line eh
You just have to be vigilant, and get your money out ASAP, don't let them use your capital for their gains....other than that Im glad to see the end of the fees, it was getting ridiculous.

You can automate it, I get paid out the next day nowadays as I've sold a minimum amount of items with high feedback so ebay "trusts" you and doesn't hold the funds for several days. You can also set it to withdraw when you want to but easier to do daily.

I don't disagree, but this isn't for sellers, this is for buyers.

Linked bank accounts have been the norm for a while, as far as I'm aware, for selling because of valid reasons as you say.
However, this is a new requirement for buyers where advanced payment from a debit or credit card is required before you can make a bid or offer.

i.e. a buyer cannot use their paypal balance to pay for an item, or submit an offer or place a bid on an auction unless they have a debit card linked - which entirely defeats the point of having funds in paypal or indeed a paypal account at all.
It is a restriction put in place by ebay which gives sellers the ability to accept only certain payment types, and apparently it is being switched over to exclude paypal balance by default.
Many sellers are unaware that buyers are effectively being blocked from purchasing from them.

It was trailed in 2023 and rolled back, but apparently it is now being enabled again as I've discovered twice this week.
Meanwhile online retailers around the world will still happily accept paypal as an accepted payment method. So I ask, where is the logic in it?

If you are a private seller you get 300 free listings per month. No listing fees. No commission (excluding cars/motorbikes/etc)
You pay listing fees over the 300. Not sure about commission over 300?

You will pay for any extras like promotion, subtitles etc but this will be shown when listing.

You may still have to pay an international fee but they mention opting in so maybe more details of that yet..

Listings I created early last Month and Fees were applied to sales I made including two Yesterday, Todays sales 0 Fees.

you can still get nectar points but you have to go through nectar site/app first. pain compared to it being automatic but it's double points now. scratch that it's quadruple points at the mo.

Fees or no fees, it still doesn't make up for the number of people that don't pay, don't turn up to collect, and you then have to wait before you can relist, have over 700 sales of large items, but haven't sold for over 2 years after ebay insisted i gave them my passport/driving licence, haven't even bought anything on there in 6 months.
Think Brad is right, there is a lot more completion with Facebook marketplace, Vinted etc, and eaby have failed to keep up.
aslo I'm finding that anything new is cheaper direct from sellers websites or Aliexpress.
