New printer

We have been without a printer for some time now and really need to get a new one.
Our old Canon still works but the rip off inks mean it is sidelined indefinitely. So the question is to go for one of the large tank printers or go for a laser printer (black only).
Thoughts?

I got the HP Smart Tank 550 Series printer, it's got refillable ink tanks, so you just buy bottles of ink. I had a cannon before this and hardly ever used it coz it cost too much in ink and was always wanting to clean the print heads, which was just a total rip off to waste ink and make you buy more.
Cost a bit more but I've easily recouped that on the savings on ink cartridges.

I went for a Brother laser for home. only B&W but its proved very useful and always wakes up & spit out a print - even after a period of no use lasting months. Unless colour is really important to you then I'd definitely reccommend a laser.

I have an Epsom fax(?),printer,scanner and use there web printer ink service I pay £9.99 (300 pages a month with roll over if not used) a month. They monitor the ink level and send me the ink

I've used OKI not laser think they are LED?? for last 15 years. Brilliant colour or black and white and fairly cheap to run ... still on same colour cartridges after a number of years and black lasts ages too ....

Brother laser here also black only one day maybe colour I just got tired of buying the cartridges to have them dry out, or your out of yellow so we can’t print your ( black ) letter, pic.

Depends how much you print, as inkjet will dryout over time. With lots of throughput, both ink and laser are fine. For low volume printing, ink is uneconomic.

I know that one is showing as currently unavailable, but I'm sure whatever model has replaced it would be just as good.
Lightning fast, wifi connection that keeps on working (unlike some... other... brands) and very low cost per page

I have a HP laser. Not had any problem with it, touch wood.

To be fair, my only experience of HP has been their atrocious inkets (and the fact that I'm sure 99% of HP's profits come from ink cartridges) - their lasers may be better

Laser is the way to go....my HP is finally on its last legs but I've had 12 years out of it which ain't bad I think.

Agree entirely!!! Terrible things - controlled by the Anti Christ.
If you can - avoid ANY color printer and stay with black/white.

Well to buck the trend, I have an Epson eco tank 2860 and it is very economical on ink. Great quality prints (we make stickers and iron on graphics) and the genuine inks are affordable. Just about to order a sublimation printer from them too.

Interesting that you're using inkjet for stickers. I'd have expected the colour to run when it got wet.

I've been using pro-grade multifunction Laser printers for a few years now, HP in the office at work and Lexmark at home office. Being MFCs they're rather bulky and buying toners makes me wince, but as printers and scanners they work very well.
