Socket set for these, not hex

I have 1/4" 12 points and last week none would fit I will try again in the morning, it is a Jun air compressor. I am too close to the problem to see the solution.

I've found that there can be a difference in fit between standard 12 point sockets and the "non-slip" type - just a thought!

PM sent , found a supplier of Jun that says they should be able to help with spec.

The Bambi compressor uses a strange bolt on the cylinder head. I got them undone with a standard socket, but it was touch and go.

So why wouldn't other double hex sockets work?

Looks standard to me. Facom even call it "standard".

"Facom 1/4 in Drive 1/4in Standard Socket, 12 point, 22 mm Overall Length"

In this context, standard means it is a garden variety 12 point standard length double hex socket. In this case, a 1/4" 12 point double hex socket.

So any 1/4" socket in the tool box should fit - no need for triple hex (ZXN), or spline, or anything else.

What I am wondering is why didn't a standard socket work in the first place.

If the first socket wasn't of good quality it may have been out of tolerance, especially at the size in question. Or, as per my previous post there can be a difference in fit between standard 12 point sockets and the "non-slip" type. I'm only guessing here though!

The original socket, that has caused me a great deal of consternation here, along with it's fellow sockets have been consigned to the "swaps" drawer of my local tool dealer. As you can see from my post above, the Facom socket I bought is a completely different animal and I shall get a full (replacement) set. In the full knowledge it will be another six years before I need to use them.
