Socket set for these, not hex

I'm with @Jack Ryan on this - they just look like standard 12 point? Depending on what it is on it might be metric or sae of course.
Triple square XZN, I've only ever seen used on internal drive - i.e. as an alternative to allen heads.

Spline drive will work on most things, but they do tend to chew up the fastener, so I'd try 12 point first.

Maybe the female equivalent of Torx might fit? Can’t remember the price, off-hand, but likelybaround 15 quid for a set of 6 or eight.

I have never seen them either, but a bit of googling and these come up as ,Subaru cylinder head bolts.

I don't think anyone sells a Female Triple Square Socket Set, just a single socket where required, like the Subaru head bolt. But even that doesn't look right.

Some lie - like this, which is a spline set.

I came across them on a Citroen dispatch or Scudo, can't remember which but Halfords got me out of trouble on a Sunday afternoon.

With the purchasing power car manufacturers have when buying in bolts its so easy for them to build in buggerance, The five sided caliper bolts on french cars come to mind.

Do you need to reuse the bolts? If not how about using an Irwin bolt extractor?

As it happens I have managed to get them off, the idea was to replace them with hex cap screws, then I discovered they are UNF:-( Might just weld a nut to them and call them metric hybrids!

Cant remember what I was working on but that was five point torx, bought a full screwdriver set and not used them since.

Pulled a VW Golf clutch, looked at the little bolts for the pressure plate and thought Umm? 50 yr old little Snap-On 12 point did it nicely..

Well I bought the Laser set and none fit!
Bloody nightmare 6mm is too small and 7mm is too big. Looks like a trip to my snap on dealer. I have a bolt so I can take that with me.

There are 12 splines.

I'm not convinced those Subaru headbolts are "triple square" either. Seems people just use a 14mm 12 point socket...

And you've definitely tried a 1/4" and 9/16" standard 12 point sockets, applied with a BFH?

I'm just really struggling to believe somebody would go to the effort of making a true triple square bolt when nobody makes a socket to drive it.
The points on the bolt in the original picture also look a bit more like 60 than 90 degrees to me.
What are they off? Might give a clue as to fastener type.

I have 1/4" 12 points and last week none would fit I will try again in the morning, it is a Jun air compressor. I am too close to the problem to see the solution.
