The trailer the OP has is fairly wide and the bike sits in the centre. I think you'd be hard pushed to flip one over. The really narrow collapsible/folding single bike trailers could be a different story in the right situation though.

I had a blowout doing 80mph on a French autoroute with a Kawasaki W800 on a single axle trailer, I hardly felt it. What I did feel was the 200€ I got mugged for by the recovery co to change the wheel - doing it yourself on the autoroute is not allowed.

I used to stand my trailer like that on its side against a wall to save space.

I did wonder about fitting caster onto the light board end, stand it up on end and then a bolt out to hinge the drawbar down but sold it before I did anything else with it.
Self adhesive grip strip on the ramp and the bits of the frame you need to stand on made a big difference on wet days!

If you had been towing a twin axle trailer, you would currently be €200 better off (totally disregarding the extra cost of the trailer)

My Erde PM310 bike trailer is parked on end in the garage but at 8ft tall, only just fits height-wise in between rafters.
Weighs around 70kg but is easy to lift up this way & I'm not that strong.
I like the idea of wheels on one edge but think it would be a more difficult lift...
and there's not much to weld to anyway, & the wheel protrusion is huge.
Very stable at speed, though.

Morning all

As i have now invested in a small single motorbike trailer to drag my bike around on family trips away and i have nowhere to store it other in the back garden (Much to Mrs Maddog's delight) AND To add insult to injury she has to help me get it there.. It weighs about 60 Kg but is particularly unruly to move through the single gate on its side - Last time we used a skateboard.

Ive got a set of castors off the Jungle site to knock up some sort of dolly, however i wondered if you more ingenious fellows could come up with a more elegant solution that my piece of ply with 4 castors on it that we can place one wheel on (trailer on its side) to wheel through the gate?

Here you go, a simple fabrication. This is a quick sketch of a mover I used for pulling my jet boat around in my barn. Should work a treat for your purpose.
EDIT: Oops, sorry, I misread your requirement for tipping it up on its side. Anyway, this is a handy moving dolly to have if you decide to make one.

I’ve replaced the wheels and tyres as they were a bit cracked. I could use one of the old ones permanently attached to the dolly and ratchet strap it to the frame to stop the wheel spinning.

Mildly off-topic, but I've always been concerned about towing a single axle trailer with a bike of mine on board - what happens when you get a puncture or blowout (see that scene in 'The world's fastest Indian')

When was the last time you had a blow out with the car?

Keep the tyres inflated, stored out of the sunlight if possible, check for cracks etc and replace when needed.

I needed larger wheels to traverse uneven ground, and the dolly shown in the sketch brought the coupling up to level towing height, which seemed to help for my situation.

i wouldnt want to lift and move that trailer tail end down as too high and ackward to move compared to on its side its bad enough lifting 8x4 sheets but lifting 8ft high boards we dont carry them that way unless we shunt them up onto a garage roof there just too ackward to handle that way

if that cart is built on a side loaders reference you can tilt it up rather well as the wheel arch of the trailer would go inbetween the carts wheels and under the trailer itself then the ratchet lift can be used to lift and tilt the trailer onto the cart on your own id also advise slide out support legs to go under the trailer or the cart may tip up while lifting until trailer is past the length tipping point ( fork lifts and skip lifting has this issue where the rear of front lifts off the ground whilst lifting )

ive shown another sort of forklift wide load adaptor as both types can be used to tip any type of trailer onto its side

there is one thing you have to beaware of the scratch on the tyre / wheel roll and as you tilt up the trailer the corner of the tyre will dig into thr ground you can fit a hydraulic lift point above the wheel bars to lift one edge higher so you can spin the trailer onto its side

the tyre will be hidden by the cart but on side trailers the tilt point is slighty shifted forward so the trailer is mostley on the cart to wheel about but the wheel will protrude slighty forward of the cart

Mine was for manoeuvering around the barn I used to store it in - all concrete floors so was fine for that.

I replace the trailer tyres at 7 years, it’s always been stored inside, I think a combination of age, speed and weight did for mine!

The last time I had a blowout was last millenium - rear tire on an escort van, no idea of the cause - tire was no more than a year old and correct pressure. I was on a dual carriageway going about 65-70 and not overloaded when there was a loud bang. Went to Kwikfit the next day, and the guy reckoned it was a blowout rather than a puncture.

An interesting read on cause of tire failure is https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...ventable-say-highways-england-and-bridgestone which suggests 1% of tire failures are down to manufaturing defects (but the study was carried out by Bridgestone so maybe they wanted to keep that figure low...)
