Yes, they look like just the thing. £88 to fasten up four bolts is a bit much though so I will look to see if I can replace the bolts first to hex head. Will keep my eye out for a set though, they look very useful.

they undo pretty much anything. worth having just of oddball situations, better than finding and buying the specific socket and never using it again

Not enough resolution in the image but there are 12 points so it is triple square (XZN), double hex or spline.
The point profile is nowhere near spline so it's either triple square or double hex.
Triple square has 90 degree corners and double hex 120 degrees. If they were double hex, a 12 point socket or ring spanner would fit - as they don't. it must be triple square.
If you don't have triple square, (universal) spline will fit. People here seem to call them "alldrive" sockets.
I've never come across "outside" triple square heads - are you sure a 12 point socket won't fit?

thats weird , same on some cylinder heads and I use 12 point metric sockets .

We found them on a few Japanese bikes and 12 point worked on them as well. 3/8 alldrive on ebay for £45
I came across them on a Citroen dispatch or Scudo, can't remember which but Halfords got me out of trouble on a Sunday afternoon.
