I use Alexa to deal with all that. I have a simple Alexa relay which pulses the trigger on request. Then Alexa has a routine to do whatever is required according to the instruction... "Alexa, close bomb bay doors", Alexa open gates" etc.

It doesn't look like AC to me - the switched side of the relay is shown with AC, but the output to the coil from the controller is DC - which would line up with your expectations for the control voltage on 11/12
You could try feeding the emergency stop loop through 15/16 on your timer, that should hold it open.

I'd also look at the "special" control settings for input 2 - perhaps there is some preset you can enable which might be useful?

If I use this GEYA timer relay I'm thinking to:

Feed "Un" from the permanent 24VDC from 14/15. That keeps the unit permanently on.

Feed "S" from the +24VDC from 13. Thus:

- Gate opens, timer relay is triggered via a +24VDC input to "S" from 13. It puts whatever lights on (the ones I want on whilst we park up, get the shopping out, pet the cat etc and possibly walk back down the drive to check the post box). I set the timer to be equal or longer to the gate opening time plus the wait time before it closes.

Gate then closes. This again triggers a 24VDC signal to "S" from 13 and starts the timing cycle again. Thinking there will be some overlap as in it getting another signal on "S" before it's timed out. Don't know if that will reset the timing cycle or there'll be a blip in the relay output that'll make the lights flicker momentarily. Gate fully closes and lights stay on until it times out.

I think! Best I try it.

I take it that the gate motor is 24v?
I was suggesting using the connections to that as the trigger for the relay.

All the gates I fit are 24v even the motors,
Well handy if you have a power cut as batteries will open them still.

What make is the kit is it CAME?

The gate motor is 230VAC. With hindsight I may have gone for 24VDC but hey ho

The kit is Chamberlain LiftMaster.

Is the “ac” symbol denoting an AC supply, or showing that the lamp is flashing? I think the latter, though it is a bit confusing - there’s no other mention of ac other than the 230v mains.

That doesn’t tie up with the words which suggest 24vdc - but then it does refer to just “24V” in another bit, it seems quite odd why they would do that!!

11/ 12 says just "24V" in the text "Gate Monitor", highlighted yellow. Then "24V/3W" on the schematic, circled red. It isn't / wouldn't be a pulsing output as it's potentially for yard lighting as it says.

12 / 13 specifically says "24VDC" in the text "Flashing Lamp" and on the schematic. Note it's not a pulsed output, just a constant 24VDC to a flasher beacon.

I'm a bit confused by this, because the gates should open and stay open until commanded to close, as standard. I think that mine is a similar brand to yours and I think that the instructions are in the control box. If it is going to help you, I could retrieve them and also take some photos of the control gear?

This is why I said that I use Alexa, one pulse to open then another at closing time. What makes you believe that timed closing is normal operation, is that how they currently operate by default?

Yes Bob, it appears that the terminals provide a 24VDC signal to drive any sensible 24VDC load, Relay, lamp whatever.

Tbh if it was DC coming out of 11&12 they'd have written 24VDC in the text on the schematic.

I'm going to email Chamberlain now.

No, I want to trigger a timer to put lights on.

PT2 on the board is adjusted for how long you want the gates to stay open before they close. As in the board starts timing once the gate has reached it's open position.

Chamberlain have come back and said it's DC on both. Not what 2 test meters here are saying. Won't be the first time I've proved a major company wrong.

My gate 'auto closes' 20 seconds after a vehicle clears the detector loops (this time is programable). It would be a right royal pain to have to manually instigate a close from a fob or whatever and delivery drivers certainly wouldn't bother.
If I need the gate open for longer periods (hedge cutting etc) I have a handy traffic cone that I place infront of the low level infra red safety sensor

I've rigged up a wireless alarm that transmits whenever the gate is opening or closing and have receivers in several places on the farm so that I know if someone has entered or left so that I can monitor them on the CCTV in real time.

Ahh OK, my misunderstanding then - when you said you wanted a timer to come on as it opens and wait for 5 minutes, i assumed it was because you couldn't achieve the opening time with the default delay - they are usually only a couple of minutes.
Now it makes a lot more sense.

With power to the relay, in this case from a 24VDC PSU, then 15-18 on the timer relay sits normally open.

A momentary, +24vdc pulse on "S" starts the timer and closes 15-18. The gate PCB doesn't though offer a momentary pulse just a constant 24VAC or 24VDC all the time the gate is moving.

Applying a constant 24V (AC or DC) to "S" and 15-18 closes but the timer doesn't start until 24V is removed from "S".

Applying 24V to S whilst the timer is timing, just adds the time setting again. So if the timer is set at 10 seconds and has counted to 5, applying 24V to S adds 10 seconds.

I've just got to work out my times based on the gate's opening/waiting/closing times.

The timer relay will get a 24VDC supply from 14-15 on the gate PCB. "S" will be fed from 13 on the PCB.

Or something like that.....

You may be able to use a capacitor or a diode / capacitor to give you a pulse from a constant supply.
