Yea i had the xc70 2.5t that was ULEZ...like a fool I got rid of it!Coincidentally I was looking at old (ish) Volvo V70’s yesterday and they ARE ULEZ compliant
An FSM Polsky FIAT 126P might be right for you.my top requirement is I want physical buttons for the air con/Fan.
Yeah, I fell into that classification years ago.Nice, that would be a handy thing for elderly people!
Same here, and simple devices can make life just a little bit easier. And those with knackered hands like me![]()
Last time I was car hunting I was surprised how many 20+ year old sheds were being advertised as 'ULEZ compliant'. Didn't bother me one way or the other, I don't drive into big cities any more, but most petrol cars of that era, including daughter's 02 plate 106, are compliant. It's old diesels they really seem to have a problem with. You're going to get me started!...we are looking for a new car at the moment and my top requirement is I want physical buttons for the air con/Fan.
I really didn't think it was much to ask..if it wasn't for ULEZ tax I'd buy an old Volvo !
When desperately short of cash & having blown up my RD250 I picked up a 1972 Fiat 500 for £25 (this was about 1986).An FSM Polsky FIAT 126P might be right for you.
You have either a pair of mechanical control levers on the dashboard.
Or a little physical butterfly valve on the transmission tunnel.
If you want cold air the valve is closed.
You have to switch a fan which takes air from the trunk in the front of the car.
If you want hot you have to open the valve in relation of how much heat you need.
Here comes a stream of oily and gasoline aromatics directly from the engine air cooling conveyor .
The speed depends directly on the throttle and the heat too really.
You can select the output from the windshield base or the front of the dash.
Few things can go wrong and everything is fixable with an hammer and duck tape
Great to see it actually being used for something!Today (well yesterday) I made a vacuum chamber for the princely sum of £3.
I've been playing about with PU casting and YouTube tells me it's better to pull a vacuum on the mixed resin to remove bubbles before pouring.
Since I recently acquired a vacuum pump on here (many thanks @Martin Hocking ) I thought it would be worth trying it out .
I bought a glass measuring jug from a charity shop for £3 and I had the rest (50mm steel thick plate, an offcut of neoprene, a steel washer and couple of fittings) kicking about.
A glass baking bowl might have been better but then I'd need an even bigger plate.
The top of the glass jug was not flat, so I used some old aluminium oxide floor sanding pads on a surface plate to get it a bit closer to flat.

The steel plate has hole in the middle.

So I welded a washer and then a couple of fittings to take the vacuum pipe.

Then just turn it over and place the neoprene with a cut over the hole, place the jug and hey presto, one vacuum chamber.

It works, however the resin didn't foam up and expand as expected (according to YouTube) but there were lots of tiny bubbles.

Not the most elegant solution and the plate is a bit heavy to lug about, but it's a quick way to prove the principal and it's nice to find a use for some of the gear I keep buying on here.
Not possible with mine as it doesn't have a sunroof. When desperately short of cash & having blown up my RD250 I picked up a 1972 Fiat 500 for £25 (this was about 1986).
Simple fun things. No syncromesh, the same smelly heater system (& window demister) and 18hp 2-cyl rear engine.
The absolute best thing about it for a young idiot though - was the discovery of a ring-pull cable under the map pocket. This turned out to be linked to the throttle cable - the world's crudest cruise control device!
Combine this with a fold back half sunroof & a young idiot..... & you have the only car I've ever known that you can set "cruise", flip back the sunroof..... and then climb out & sit on the roof, while steering with your feet![]()

I can’t remember if I mentioned it but the pump can be re-jigged to pull a bit more vacuum if needed by running one of the pumps through the other.
Happy days!
You are quite artistic !Made over the last few days.
Then given to a site.
