Years ago when I was a lad I was working with an old builder and he shovelled a load of sand into my barrow. I said that will do for me and he promptly dropped a (1cwt) bag of cement on top. I struggled to shift it.

I'd have to disagree, we have both types at the stables and the plastic ones fail first, mounting bolts pull through the plastic body.

I dont like wheelbarrows, but I could use a cart of some kind for shifting heavy stuff and have been considering welding one up from 25mm SHS. I have a reasonable number of short cut firewood logs to move..

What about one of those collapsible garden trolleys with about 8" wheels. I think Vevor had some at a reasonable price.
@8ob converted one (non collapsing) to a yard toolbox with two heavy cantilever boxes on top. Had it years and it's survived his abuse trundling it about the yard full of tools.

I can confirm the collapsible ones do collapse, allegedly rated to 400kg, didn't even get to 200kg before this happened.

Tight wad ! Check out Temu for a set of four neoprene tyred ones .. do put new sealed bearing in them thought, all six such wheels I have had utter garbage for bearings that seized with a mere 50 kg load . One of the bearings in the originals had two ball bearings missing
