At MIS they dry it for a year.
But I have been told that this year they dipped it into to plastic coat, a sickly yellow shade.
Green state they weave into climbing frames, let it dry as well.

Yes I have seen some videos, sod that! Tho I note their ropes are likely anchored on the roof rather than the bamboo.

Been harvesting beetroot this week...these are varieties not available in the supermarket. Just enough for a side portion...I usually pick a few every other day from now until they're all gone!

This afternoon I got Olha to sow 40 beetroot seeds in five short four foot long rows in a shaded veg bed . With luck this third successional sowing will give us plenty of beets for Olha's borsch as well as my sweet pickled beet slices .

Years ago SWMBO thought it'd be a good idea to plant some bamboo right next to my garage. Horrible stuff that just gives the rats and squirrels easy access.

Now I need some more runner bean canes and this stuff looks just the right length and diameter. If I lop some lengths off and stick in the ground / tubs, will it take root and start growing again?

Likely to if it is green , store it in bundles till next year so it dies & dries out . same applies to willow and poplar wands

Couple weeks ago I left one cherry on the tree for birds, ate the others, quite nice.
I did not consider a fat pigeon would try its luck, and fail. It did not get the cherry but also snapped the top 180 degrees hanging by a few fibres.

I was out at the time, so 6 hours later I tried to graft/tape it back together. 3-4 weeks later this is how it looks.
I did pull most of the leaves off leaving just a few. No new growth showing but therremaining leaves look ok, so still getting enough sap? Through the xylem.

We had some baby skinny grass looking clumps of baby garlic sown from seed last year , that over wintered .
This spring Olha pulled them out the allium beds as they are getting legumes and planted the bulbs two inches deep ( above the top of the bulb ) in a well shaded part of the garden .
They are just starting to wilt but look a bit bigger than yours , which is surprising due the excessive depth they were planted at as I normally put such leafed babies in at an inch deep from the top end of the bulb and snip off 3/4 of the greenery

Another wildlife friendly plant, Chicory, flowers for months. Even gets sparrows feeding on some of the insects.

Planted a few mango seeds in pots. Unlikely they would survive outside when the temperatures drop but will see how they do. May bring one indoors for winter. These were from shop bought mangos, split the husk open, wrapped seed in wet tissue and cling film for a week. 40mm root showing when I planted.

As some wildlife means that I can't grow onions in the vegetable patch (they were spring onions and silverskins, started to come up but then disappeared) I put a few of each in some stone trays with what passes for compost these days. Please to see that after about a week, there are some signs of life.

We've got a few pumpkin plants going mad too. I didn't deliberately plant them, but I did chuck a lot of seeds in the compost bin last year. I've just left them to create a jungle and get on with it:

Weight for weight bamboo is stronger than steel tube.

This year I'm growing butternut squash...I wasn't really sure how they'd go from a flower to a squash...makes sense now I see it!

Tomatoes got wiped out by blight this year

As Soon as the toms started to develop into small marble size toms we stripped off all leaves below the bunch and also ensured there are no middle finger fork on the plants , it appears to have helped stop blight even thoug app plants are on ground level micro watering via a Hozelock dosing time clock 3 min at dawn & 3 min at dusk .

We also take off the dying flower head as this appears to reduce blossom end rot due to insects & too much watering

Cheers for the tips...every year is the same on our allotment unfortunately.

This year I thought I'd escape by using a greenhouse which didn't help .

I'll try the leaves tip as I can see that might help.
