Just ask your insurer how much extra premium they'd want if you use a waste oil heater !

Its quite easy to do.
Many years ago the company I worked at used it in the steam boilers with a special burner and filtration system, it worked very well on old engine oil but once we started buying it in we had loads of issues as it was usually contaminated.
As above re pollution and safety but if you are inventive you an fit an after burner in the stack and it will burn off any contaminates but you really need to know what you are doing
I assume this are now licensed all depends if someone will tell tails all smoke is bad.
I am sure Youtube will be full of ideas

i made a fairly simple one using one of these syphon nozzles (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/29616292...e+TDk/eF8ZbDFmuB2txFgsYw==|tkp:Bk9SR6LkgKmNZA)
fitted in the housing of an old riello burner, actually works very well, no visible smoke, no smell at all, and lights very easily with a blow torch. doesnt use that much air from the compressor, i only have it on 10-15psi
I found an old fuel tank for a Lister in my grandads scrap pile years ago, it has a sloped bottom and a drain to get rid of water and the big chunks, that helps keep the oil supply reasonably good
the only downside other than sometimes blocking with rubbish oil, is the noise, i need to have a re-design and see if i can make it quieter.

Very happy with the burner and getting a very nice clean flame, whats worrying me is flameout without having something in the way of auto shutoff, could very easily explode without some sort of failsafe.The mock up burner

The annual cost of a licence to burn waste oil could very well be more than burning heating oil

the waste oil burner was used until it was proved that other users suffered due to users who didnt care to keep warm
what can you do if you have a lot of it
filter it
centrifuge it
then it can be used to a degree but you still run the risk of having issues if you are checked to see what your burning

I used a Kroll waste oil burner to heat my workshop and bodyshop, ducted hot air, the burner used compressed air, it did grow a ball of clinker in the tube just in front of the burner unit and we had to pull the burner unit out and remove the clinker every two weeks or so, the oil was filtered and the small oil tank was heated, we also had a small tank of heating oil in the workshop, the waste oil tank was out of sight, there was a switch over valve, it burnt very cleanly, no soot or smoke except at first start up or if the clinker ball was getting to big! warmest workshop in Enfield......
