Anything different about the way it's being driven this year?

I bought a tidy Rover 216 from the auctions, on a 300 mile run down South it wasn't willing to go over 65mph, on the run back it was happy at 80+ My guess is it had always been a "30mph at most" town car and a good long run on the motorway blew the cobwebs out of the motor

Try an Italian tune up, it costs nothing but the fuel and can be fun

how much was the fuel last trip compared to this trip,20quids worth last year might not give you the same as this year,so,less mpg,no?
I'd have a hunt around and see if you can buy a bottle of diesel magic,must have it france,chuck a bottle in on next fill up

Any smoke, small boost leak would over fuel but you should see signs of excess soot then a blocked dpf

Would two bikes mounted on the back cause excess drag?
We did not have them last year

This would easily account for the decrease in mpg.

I’m down in Spain in our camper, 2 bikes on the back sheeted down & I can feel the difference, definitely saps power.

Roofbars are worth thinking about - I've seen a few things in the last couple of years saying that even empty they hurt your MPG - drag and disturbed airflow upsets the aerodynamics?

Fuel was fine last year with the roof bars.
Probably the bikes.
We had same Fuel use without them, but that was crawling up the mountain road

I’ll cheer you up a bit Chunk, I’m pulling 2 1/2 ton behind my works Hilux. Way below 20 mpg ! The machine on the trailer, a flail bot, has used £65 of diesel in two days. I am thrashing the flail bot though, full revs all day !
