How to stop corrosion on Aliminuim tools

My newish 3 year old milwakee chop saw has started corroding, the saw was seized in the blade down posistion yesterday I have not used it for some time admitidly. I even had to beat the lock pin ot with a hammer and punch.

What can I protect it withto slow/stop this happening.

Keep it dry and away from sea air/salt spray.

The aluminium is in electrical contact with other metals, so galvanic corrosion is going to occur.

Use wd40 on it or whatever preferred spray you like?
I have a sprayer with wd40/iso46 oil 50:50 mix that i use on any of my tools that can corrode.

I reakon its the steel lock pin in the ali that started the corroision! It had a soaking of graphited pen oil yesterday as I set about freeing it all up. but I like the idea of a wd40/iso oil mix.

same here and keep it covered with a black binbag when not used top keep dust off .thats what atracts dampness and corosion . do it with all my saw blades and some gear

I left my Mountfield lawnmower in a shedfor 2 years. Came to get it out this year and the aluminium deck has shed all it's coating. It looks awful.

Don't keep it in a damp place. They add zinc to aluminium because it casts better, unfortunately when it gets damp it rots. AKA pot metal

its in the new shed not really damp as it is well insulated.

If you spray when it's cold warm it up before spraying. I usually spray and wipe it on the bike with a little bit of rag.

Brush off all the loose sawdust, damp loves the stuff !

Thin some new engine oil and coat it in that. Alternatively keep it under lathe bench as anything under mine is permenently covered in way oil/cutting lube, which I use engine oil for both. A bit of swarf wont damage most tools!

My old lathe motor is sealed in a blue thick bin bag/rubble sack with a bit of oil sprayed in there, in garage. Havent used it in years.

First got introduced to ACF50 about 15y ago but it's been used in aerospace for a long while I believe.
Got it recommend for storing unobtanium motor cycle parts, exhausts etc, and it's always done very well (years), plastic bagging after a coat really helps.

I'm not a fan of the spray cans, not only are they expensive, but had the propellent fail in the past with plenty still left in it.
