Did you ever have the tinned Cheese Possessed the Army had in its ration packs?

Dad used to bring those home off Exercise as no-one would eat them.
I used to like it on digestives or biscuits, brown
but the stuff just would not toast - it sort of melted and burnt at the same time.
Sort of like melted PVC insulation.

Used to love those ration packs. My big brother would rig up a bivvy in the garden when he was on leave. All good stuff in gold tins with just the name written on top, biscuits in little green packets and Kendall mint cake. All cooked up on a hexamine stove.

Cheese I reckon. Used to make those smoked cheese, sausage shaped things. Did it come with the accompanying tool to inject the bits of ham?

I can see where it could be used to make tubular cheese thingamajigs...or whatever you'd call a sausageless sausage. Cheese bar? Cheese roll?

However, there must have been a mad rush on ham injectors lately, as I didn't see any on the shelf.

A new cheap & cheerful little old Fiesta Van to chug to work, cart my tools & take crud to the tip in. Mot till November-the-something, good tyres, 1.4 diesel, 86k miles.
Niggles and a bit tatty (& the tailgate seal leaks i think- so the ply floor is damp & fausty) stiff gearshift (common apparently and a cheap fix) but a new battery, discs & pads, runs & drives fine. Rust of course but surprisingly solid overall.
Of course a gamble that it wont go pop - but at £500 (insured for £206) it's hardly a high-stakes bet!

In London that would get weighed in at our recycling centre as commercial.....plus I'd have to pay £12.50 ulez too of course .

I don't think it's as bad as that here, but you need to get a permit to take your own waste to the tip in a van, otherwise you're trade.

I am rapidly coming to the same opinion.
I used to love living in London but these days it seems that what I like to do and what I like to drive is not what London wants.

It's all getting (got) ridiculous. Our Dictatorship here have schemes to thieves ever-more from the poorest area in the UK including pay-per-mile & ULEZ etc. In a largely rural country with zero useful public transport infrastructure & where everyone needs personal transport to get to work, school etc.

But for now, this little fella will do nicely I hope.

We had to pre-book during Covid etc but not any more.
Our centres wont allow big vans without a permit... but you can rock up with a 4x4 pickup & a massive trailer without an eyebrow lifted - a concession due to the hugec amount of farming etc I'm guessing.
I think this dinky van is allowed. Its got a towbar & a 900g tow limit as well (& have access to a dinky homebuilt trailer)

The infrastructure is utterly embarrassing...we are a tiny country with a large population. It should be super cost effective to provide rail, roads, utilities given the distances involved.

London is a joke...20mph everywhere. I can't drive my 998cc nissan anymore...but I can drive my 2.5l V70 estate!

Same here in West London...neighbour got turned away with his fence panel...that was deemed commercial. So he took it home and simply burned it...maybe they'll ban fires next!

I take the Surf as it's hassle free and huge! I can fit more in it than my ****ty LWB Combo van.

They are putting posters on the back of buses saying how every log burners kills children or words to that effect, so yes banning open fires.

Today the recycling bin was full of cardboard....options were:

1. Go online, book a slot at the dump in the next 2-3 days...then drive at 20mph there and back...it isn't far but it's maybe 45minute round trip.

2. Make a cuppa...burn it in the garden!

Not a hard choice!

In Gloucestershire it’s booked on-line only, that’s actually better as it stops a rush at certain times & empty others, it spaces people out. Trailers ok up to 6 foot x 4 foot internal measurement. Vans only by arrangement though, it seems to work pretty well
