Getting tyred of the same experience

I done a bunch of them never had any trouble.
They are very common over here, I remember when Dad got the first kit back in the 1970's.

I've used 12+ on my cars over the years. Never had a problem with a single one of them, they held up just fine some of them lasting 1.5 years+ as the tyre was in service.

No matter who fits the wheels nuts, always recheck them a week or so later.

I've known trialists put a brake drum into a wheel, block all the holes, trip hot lead in around it . . . the theory of getting extra weight right where you need it . . . can't imagine what happens if you do manage to get the wheels spinning . . .but I imagine vision blurs . . .

Fortunate to have a local independent here who treat your wheels as if they were their own. They sell a lot of alloys too.

Don't get me wrong, they serve a purpose but not for a 100% safe and permanent fix. They are great for small wheels like quad and ride on mowers but that's about it. I definitely would not fix a customers tyre with one and feel totally happy about it.
I see them leaking weekly, fixed by someone who can't be arsed and charge a fiver. We then have to do the job properly, which costs £15.

well ive used them on my stockcar and after 25 laps of riving the crap out of them none ever let go same as some of my road vehicles you go round with screws and nails in your tire for weeks and they just go down slowly before you realise .they never fall out or go pop so why should a sticky string with a loop inside

funny you can pass an mot with a nail in every tyre , then people moan about those , id rather pull a nail and plug it than drive around in ignorance

never had an issue with any ive done either , worst case you pay up and have it done at a garage not like youve filled it with foam or anything bad

I've never heard of one failing by coming back out, I've seen 10s if not over 100 leaking slowly. Then when you pull them out to patch them you see all wire sticking out on the inside. It's also dangerous because you can't see other damage that could be caused by the original puncture.

The foam can be rinsed out and the tyre repaired. I'd rather the foam than the plug.

Tyre repair from the outside, as with strings, is not an approved repair for use on the road IIRC, so you could be in hot water if there is an accident.

most tire firms wont repair a puncture id its had foam in it, i wouldn't use the stuff if you payed me unless the tire had nearly had it

But for what reason? So they can sell a new tyre? If the tyre is in good shape and safe to fix, I rinse it out and patch it.

aparently the chemical based ones can degrade the tire and should be changed water based ones are ok to clean and re use

Ok, I can't dispute that as I don't know the ins and outs regarding tyre foam sealant. All I know is that I've repaired tyres that had foam in them with no problem and have seen countless plugs leaking, which isn't a safe repair at the best of times.

There is a main dealers not far from your office that one of the lads dropped his car off at for a service, this was the "sports model" couple weeks later an NIP in the post for sixty in a thirty. He took the note down to the dealers and apparently there was a lot of shouting went on. It was for the same day his car was there for this "service".

A handful of years back the local Audi dealer made the national press after a car owner contacted them to say he'd downloaded the data from his car's tracker and could they explain why it had recorded 140mph while it was in for a service.
I seem to think Richard Head who'd taken it out for a thrash posted video of it on the net... down the dual carriageway to Ingleby Barwick, which is a 50 limit.
Apart from the owner allegedly getting a free service out of it I don't think anyone was prosecuted.
A certain 'specialist' servicing place near us uses the local DC and even the bloody car park as their own private test track.

It was an Audi and the same dealers you refer to in the Mandale triangle.

Quite a few years ago when Fiat Coupes were current, the guy who'd been our Best Man had the five cylinder 20 valve version. He put in for a service at the local Fiat dealer, some monkey there took it out for a 'spin', lost it on a roundabout and totalled it. To say my mate was not best pleased was an understatement. He settled for cash, or at least a cheque.
A photographer I once worked with regularly, put his brand new Scirocco in for its first service, if I recall work commitments meant he couldn't pick it up Friday evening and asked could they store it until Monday; by which time it had over 300 extra miles on it. He found the Silverstone Circuit passes which had been left in the car, the garage was near Croydon. VW GB weren't pleased, I think he got free servicing for quite a while. Great photographer, he was more recently to lose both legs to complications arising from diabetes.
