I did skydiving for a few years, 60 jumps altogether. I hated it when I was up there in the plane, 10,000’ and I’d be literally shaking with fear, but I forced myself to do it.
The initial gut lurching feeling of falling from the plane was terrifying, but after about 8 seconds free fall it was almost as if a big hand had reached out and pressed on your back, accelerating faster and faster, about 120mph is normal free fall speed. That was pretty amazing. Do a few spins, and few back loops, then hit the pilot chute and hope you’d got the last parachute pack right….

I was a bit more hooked….used to be able to sleep in the plane on the way up! And my reserve was confirmed as green and white! Reading this thread has made me wonder just how much cash Ive blown over the years, with fast cars, fast bikes, fast women, racing power boats, Sky, Scuba and ….. diving, the rest I just wasted on normal things!I did skydiving for a few years, 60 jumps altogether. I saw my reserve twice, in 60 jumps. First time wasn’t my fault, the guy who packed and checked my newly acquired ram air rig had neatly folded the pilot chute in a way it could never be pulled out… so I hit the reserve after struggling for 2000’…
Second time was my own fault, horrible hangover, shouldn’t have been jumping, ended up forward rolling through my own risers as the chute deployed, resulting in twisted risers and the slider stuck way up high, and no steering. Reserve ride again… that time I threw the whole rig in the packing shed once I’d landed and decided it wasn’t for me.

Once you retire many of the things you had in common with folk related to work, gradually disappear. Some go off restoring cars, others cruising on their yacht, or hide in their green house, you basically have very little in common anymore.

I had that when I was in nursing, loads of work mates, but you only ended talking about work, as it's so consuming. A fair part of the reason I quit, I'll go rant about boats now.
That's exactly what I'm talking about .
Somehow my brain realized that life is not all about fear , lonelyless .. and after that everything became possible . Life is beautiful . I want to do everything , talking about sports , social relations , work .. it doesn't metter if I reach the target or not , I have to try it , the most important thing is to enjoy every single moment .
I learnt that if I put my heart in everything I do , rewards will arrive somehow .
It took years to me to reach this poi t , I know , in the beginning I thought ' My goodness , so many years wasted ! ' than I stopped and realized that hours , days , months , years spent to find yourself are not wasted . It's your journey . Just don't give up , but push harder .
A new adventure has started for me , so thank you all guys for the support , I'll keep you updated .

Once you crack the confidence of doing the small things, you will progress in confidence until you are "Rudyard Kipling".
Eventually you will be able to cope with whatever and whoever life throws at you as an equal rather than a 'mouse'. At your age, I couldn't imagine standing up for myself after being bullied as a teenager, but now? I have mixed with celebrities, important and influential people and those whose desire was to destroy me. After each encounter I became stronger and I now laugh in the face of bullies and lawyers, particularly the latter once I understood how utterly stupid many of them are!
I wish you well and I'm certain that you will grow in confidence. One day you might end up as forthright and outspoken as me, because you know that nobody (one exception in my case) can harm or destroy you. Whether that is good or bad, is something that you need to decide for yourself.

One of my prize possessions is a (very poor) school report and the French teacher's bit that reads: "Will never speak a foreign language, no aptitude". I would like to find that teacher and converse with her in any one of the several languages I speak fluently. I a am not being facetious either, married to a hispanic for twenty odd years means you get to learn the language or you get divorced, in short order.

No, people are good, just not very forgiving. Make a mistake and that probably defines you in their eyes for the rest of your life.
I have done way more than most and for that I am eternally grateful. I don't often discuss or talk about some of my "trips out" because the average Joe would think I am fantasizing so I keep my own counsel.

The worrying thing for me is that I seem to have done all the major things that i wanted to do and now just happily just mess about happy in my own bubble. Strangely all my few friends have suddenly and independently seem to have acquired the " Cruise bug" and are off on Sardine voyages every 10 minutes ,the thought of which makes shudder. Worst thing is having to show the slightest hint of interest when being regaled with all the fun things they do. As in "look at what we saw when we were in............" and I have to shut up before I ask " yes but what did you actually DO ?"
