yep a nightmare to trace wiring if theres ever a fault .i had one similar last week to pull to bits
was a neutral to earth fault on the motor in the heating diverted valve 20 quid for a new one from screwfix
I never call anyone for problems like that. I've brought a lot of dead boilers back to life, my own being the most recent.

@Smouser Result.I replaced the water pump yesterday as the old one was getting a bit noisy and taking a time to get hot water to the lounge rad.
Your wiring centre looks loads worse than oursand ours is going to be "sorted" out in summer when I can rewire it at leisure.

That's a new one on me - my Dad had a pellet stove installed in his last place, but the controller looked like some dead simple 1980s design. Is this so it can be controlled over the network?
They do log into it remotely on request to diagnose faults, but on this occasion it doesn't get as far as the OS, so they can't. It's a combined pellet and log burner and the controller also covers the heat stores, mixing valves, pumps and any solar thermal input so quite a complex box of tricks. I guess it makes sense to use ubiquitous libraries for thus, hence the use of Linux.

We had new coffeemachines (50 or 100) at work that started leaking milkpowder after a few days, so the companies mechanic came and started fixing them by replacing a unit.Ah, it's nice to see a fellow member of the Leftover Parts Club. I suspect that a lot of us are members, whether we admit it or not. I'm OCD enough that if I find a leftover part, I can't rest until I tear everything down again and install it in its rightful place. A couple of weeks ago, I overhauled the carb of my portable generator. After I got it all back together and reinstalled on the engine, I walked back into the shop and spotted two small O-rings lying on the bench where I had been working, which prompted a string of oaths as I brought the generator back into the shop and started tearing the carb off. About that time, spouse walked in and said that she had been cleaning out the kitchen 'junk' drawer and found a couple of O-rings, which she brought out to the shop and placed on the work bench.
BTW, the generator runs great, and it came in handy during our recent power outage.
And I can't see any problem with that at all. Take a short cut, make a mistake, slide off the roof, do serious damage, rest of life in pain or worse, dead . . . I would ask my partner's dad, but he's dead . . . from a H&S failure . . .
